    Earthquake!

I was in the Volunteer in Sidmouth at the time and I thought I'd felt a slight rumble. My daughter insisted it was the large bag of pork scratchings I'd eaten the night before. They were good though. Gareth

    Zippo hand warmer 12 hour

I have two of the Zippos, one for either side! Used to have a Peacock but it vanished. I found it was much warmer than the Zippos but they cost more!

    are they taking the p?

You think you have problems! I enjoy the bushcraft, though I don't get out too much through getting too old but I am a morris dance musician too! I know suffering

    Sloe gin - can't wait!

Looks good. When I make it, I generally use less sugar than the recipes say. I can always add more before bottling if needed. I'm glad you reminded me though as I had totally forgotten a litre or so I started last year that I found at the back of the cupboard! Amazing colour. Must strain it...

    Beltane

Well it was perishing cold on the top of May Hill in Gloucestershire this morning where I was playing for my morris side with an audience of a hundred or so other idiots at dawn this morning! The sun made a wonderful appearance though. Beltane greeting toyou.

    Smoking bacon rashers?

I've been curing my own bacon for some years now. I bought a cheap butcher's knife to slice it! Try it once and you'll never buy the slimy cack again...

    Barbour Coat advice

I have both the Beaufort and the Northumbria, both bought cheap on evil bay. Got the Northumbria first. As they say above, it is heavy! It was in good nick but a bit dry when I got it for £30 so I've rewaxed it. The Beaufort was as new for £50. It is shorter and much lighter than the...

    Wonderful fiddle

A friend of mine bought a fairly large hammered dulcimer she gave to me to fix up. Took me hours to tune it when I'd finished the woodwork! It was a three course model and I think it takes longer to tune the buggers than to play them! Another friend lent me his old harp (clarsach) to play with...

    Crumpets or muffins?

My daughter came round yesterday with a pack of crumpets she'd just bought. I hadn't had them for ages. Must get some more. She had hers with thick crunchy peanut butter on. What have I brought up? Gareth

    Sloe's.

I don't have any sloe gin on the go this year but I do have damson gin, having found a handy tree. When I checked the interweb for a recipe, I too found someone above's sugestion of throwing a bottle of cheap sherry on the damsons when you've strained the good stuff off. Mine is ready for...

Choice of uk legal pocket knife

Strewth is the right word there mate! I think they have made a slight error there with an original price of £113.99! I hadn't noticed that when I did a quick search for the Swiss Soldier model! Gareth

Choice of uk legal pocket knife

I have several legal folders and always take one out with me most times. The most useful and people friendly is the old style Victorinox Soldier which seems to have been renamed the Pioneer as there is a new Soldier which has a locking blade so not a good idea for daily carry...

    Bread and dripping

Don't know if they still stock it as I moved nearer another supermarket but Morrison's used to sell quite a decent dripping complete with the jelly. Now it's been mentioned I think an expedition to Morrison's is called for soon Gareth
