    What do you do?

I would agree with a lot of waht has already been said, do what you want to do. But, have something to fall back on if the dream doesn't work out. It's the one regret that I have in my life that I waited until I had tried all the other stuff out before I went and did my degree, so at 33 I was...

    Axe advice needed

Right then, I'll be changing the helve for a longer one. I was hoping to end up with a more versatile tool than it is at the moment, and it looks like this will work. Cheers for the advice and photo's, I'll try to get some of my 'reworked' axe up when it's done. Paul

    Axe advice needed

Cheers for the info. I've been looking for a 20in helve for while with no luck. I'll probably end up trying the 24in and see what happens. Paul

    Axe advice needed

Hello all I've got a couple of hatchet size axes, both 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pound, about 500g to 1kg, with helves of about 12 in, 30 cm, and got to thinking about replacing one of the helves with a longer 24 in one. Has anyone else done this and will it work? Or should I just do it and see what...

    Bushcraft Anthems

Na, Mike Oldfields Voyager album is much more bushcrafty, Tubular Bells I, II, III and Millenium Bell are all for the bath and relaxing with a glass of wine, or a large, quality single malt, at home.;) Paul

    Bushcraft Anthems

When leading groups on walks and hikes I would start humming 'We wish you a Merry Christmas', 'Jingle Bells' or 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer', without fail several members of the group would start to sing the song.;) And, on another note, how about 'Run to the Hills' by Iron Maiden Paul

    Preparing Cramp Ball fungus

I've left the ones I've found on the radiator for a couple of days which seemed to work. I've got a couple that are really wet and i've thought about trying the oven on a really low setting for a few hours. Anybody else tried to force dry them? Paul

    Four eyes?

Hi All I've been wearing contacts for about 4 years now for all kinds of outdoor stuff and would thoroughly recommend them. I have had some irritation from wood smoke etc, but with practice I can take them out clean them and put them back in without a mirror. It is really just another...

    'Nubuck' Sueded Leather Ideas

I really like the look of that, but this stuff is so soft it won't hold a shape. I tried a possibles pouch but it proved impractical because of the 'floppyness'(sp). Imagine cotton tee shirt material stiffness. Paul

    Fishing - restart

Oh and another place is Thirlmere. I've never fished it but I knew a few folks that did. It's one of the few places you can 'course' fish for trout in the Lake District. Sorry I keep remembering more. Paul

    Fishing - restart

Hi EdS If you are heading to the Lake District I've been informed by a National Park Ranger that you can fish Styhead Tarn with just a rod licence, no need for a permit.:D And having spent quite a few evenings there it's heaving with trout. There are also fish in the tarn below the summit...

    'Nubuck' Sueded Leather Ideas

Hiya all I'm after some ideas as to what I can do with a piece of 'nubuck' sueded leather that I've got. It's about 6ft x 4ft and 1 - 2mm thick. Its very soft and easy to work with, I've already made a couple of tobacco pouches with some and looking for a new project. Any ideas? Paul P.S...
