    bivvy camping

Try running a few zig-zag beads of silicone sealant across the mat, bathroom sealant will do but go easy all you need is 1-2mm high beads, this will do the trick, to stop the slipping. Works a treat

    Pain in the neck

Not perfect but you should get the idea.... most important, the shoulders do not carry the weight, the hips do and not the top of the thighs either, the hip bones act as a fulcrum for your body and the legs carry the weight. By having the hip belt properly placed the majority of the weight of...

    Pain in the neck

With Shewie on this one. Make sure the distribution goes heavy to core and transfer the weight onto your hips. If the hip belt is not comfortable, either replace it or use another decently padded belt (a hippo or make your own - as I did) and get used to carrying with the weight on your hips...

    Recovery time...

I'm now suffering with old injuries playing up. Shoulder from dislocation seems to flare up, pop out and take forever to heal, previous breaks ache with the damp and on it goes (all that abuse when I was younger - take note Drew!). The mind is still 26 though...... and thinks the body is too....

How to scare other campers away

It probably only works in Canada (or USA) but I once scared the living bejaysus out of a tankie colleague of mine by sneaking to the back of his bivvi with a can of compo rice (it is dried rice in a tin). After giving it a bit of a shake and a tap to the side of the bivvi he was awake. I then...

    Modular System Kit List

Hiya Raikey, This has evolved from time in the forces needing to know where everything is, seen or not, and from de-kitting out of the military mind set. I have found that especially on lone trips the discipline of keeping things in some semblance of order (don't get me wrong I ain't tidy or...

    Modular System Kit List

Some of you may have seen a while ago that I recycled a bergen and modified my kit to suit the new configuration. I have also had the opportunity to fine tune the set-up and do some minor modifications to the bergen. (see link): http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61284 I have now...

The look on her face... Priceless!

Did the same sorts of things with my kids from when they were about her age. They are now 21 and 20 and still remember those days (and nights) as their most vivid memories! Better than any others! Keep it up with her and you'll both cherish it forever.
