    head torch?

when we started camping / hiking i got 2 petzl headtorchs, one for me and one for the wife. Still use them every time, and we got them a good few years ago now. They were expensive, but id buy anouther immediately if one broke. Only thing i wish they had was a red bulb or filter... There might...

recomend a mid priced gas stove, ultra lightweight????

i have a brunton flex. I dont know what your definition of *ultra light* is, but its super light to me ? - It fits in the concave bottom of a gas canister, and comes with a little material holder that holds it there. i think the weight is 3.4oz, about 100 gramms here...

What knife and carry for an ambush predator?

i know its not *stictly* a knife, but surely if your going to get into hand to hand combat with a big preditor a chainsaw is the only way to go ? Prefferably taken into combat with a battle cry.

    Underwear and base layers

Seems unlikely that a base layer would "go up in smoke" as such. Mostly because even if it caught fire its close to the skin so you could pat the flames out quite easily. I know ive never heard of it happening at least. And you'd prolly know its on fire cos its touching you ;p - be more...

with all this talk of the TA and bushcraft survival skills, i have to mention: "bear grylls... discuss". j/k. - seems to be the "defcon 1" button on this forum :)

advice on a lightweight solo tent?

as a curiousity, whats the draw of the banshee over the tempest ? - i remember at the time having a toss up between the two. I think i didnt like the size of the space at the side for packs ?

    bushcraft instructor

thinking about this a bit more today. Others have pointed out: - Business is a big bad world of complicated forms and such - Health and Saftey, first aid and other qualifications etc takes time to get, youll need these to do face to face work. - You need skills to teach to others Why not...

advice on a lightweight solo tent?

the vango tempest 200 is a good little tent. We actually have the 300 for 2 of us, but it'll take your rucksacks in the entrance area (allbeit blocking you in if its a big pack). Would recommend checking it out at least.

    bushcraft instructor

Sadly im not kidding. Maybe it's just my personal experience, but whenever I read a post that begins with "so" I tend to immediately think "teenager". I know that's what I thought with this thread, but I dont know either of these guys so might be totally wrong ! You know, little things...

    bushcraft instructor

I know this is going to seem really really minor, but if it bugs me it'll prolly bug other people. If you're aiming to give a professional impression of your company (and yourself) on an internet forum, dont start any post with "so". Personally, I put pidgeon into hole at that exact moment...

what's turned your head this year?

I own several diffrent screw-on gas stoves, the two major downsides of these are: 1) stability, as it sits on top of the canister. 2) swapping cans when hot if one runs out. I've always wanted a tube type stove, without paying the earth for it. Today i found this...

    Failed first camp

what were you wearing on your feet ? - normally with leather walking boots you should have dry feet in anything under 3-4 inches of water. Maybe you put the tent in a dip also which might increase the water you get. - its easy to do though, the dry areas big enough for a tent are always the...

    Wanted!! Empty 35mm film canisters

from what i understand the quality of typical 35mm film is roughly equal to about 16M digital cameras. Seeing as 12M cameras are pocket change these days its all much a muchness. That said, it does look professional to use film and tripod :)

The Reason you need to practice with your equipment !

good vid actually, has many of the same problems i face, lots of smoldering but no flames. I put this down to water in the leafs or whatever, but often its nigh impossible to get that flame.

    The Wilderness Debate

my rule of thumb is very simple: It's not a true wilderness unless at least one thing that lives there can eat your face. done. :-)

    well, this is hilarious......

one really good idea id never seen before that was on this show was the thumb string they used when using a hand drill to stop blisters. Such a simple idea, just a short 6 inch bit of string with a loop on either end fitted into a groove on the end of the hand rod and used by putting the thumbs...
