Worlds Toughest Expeditions, with James Cracknell.

Aye, also seen Kadazan Dusan using the same methods with hand made tools. The trailer clip looks great, some awesome locations and Cracknell's a top bloke, a lot of hard work goes into projects like this and full credit to Ross and the BE team, I think it's positive stuff. That pain is real !

I bring the sad news of the passing of John McAleese this weekend, from my time spent working with him at the UK Survival School, and as I'm sure our students would agree, he was simply one of the best Survival Instructors on the circuit and a pleasure to work with, a brilliant tracker with a...

Colin Mortlock - New website and book

Some of the older members and readers here may remember Colin from back in the 70's and 80's, his teachings and his first book 'Adventure Alternative' in '84 was a major inspiration for me getting involved in the outdoors and has been an influence throughout my career in outdoor adventure and...

    firesteels overrated

Yep, same here, I shove the rod straight into the tinder pile and secure the strike plate to the toe of my boot then pull the rod towards me and away from the tinder pile, thus maximum sparks and heat are concentrated within the centre of the tinder pile, usually lights first time every time.

Recommendation to abolish the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority AALA

From my experience and understanding the licence costs £715 and lasts for 3 years. Additional costs arise when providers use independent consultants to advise or represent them through the application process. I think replacing the AALA with a voluntary code will take us back to the dark days...

Recommendation to abolish the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority AALA

John, from your comments I believe you have a very firm knowledge and understanding on what AALA is about and what good it's done for the industry. Indeed I remember the Lyme Bay incident well and the inception of AALA, I've also dealt with AALA on a consultancy basis over the years of it's...

    Military Survival Course

Excellent review mate...as I said in your other thread, priorities of protection and hydration - I'm surprised at you getting sweeties (they must be going soft) although, I'm not sure whether the powers at 'B' may appreciate their tactics exposed as this used to be very protected. Were you in...
