I used the Swedish M59 in the army and didn't like it at all. Heavy, clumsy, too few pockets and not water resistant. With the lineron it was warm enought to sleep outside in Swedish november w.o a fire though, so if you want warmth it'd be an OK choice. My fav is actually the UK M-95 windproof...

Great way to make it lighter but I wouldn't want to treat it the way I did in the army if it had a plastic frame

As a Swede AFAIK the general rule is that fishing permit is needed except in coastal waters.

As far as I remember from when I was in the Army, yes. We actually got those issued for winter wear in the mid 1980's. Never froze despite temperature hitting -37.
