    Clothes for skiing

Thanks! Actually I just remembered that I have an extra UK DPM Windproof smock (from eBay) that is a little too large. Are they as windproof (I know the name suggests it, but I'm not sure) as the Swedish? Then I could dye that one black (so as not to draw too much attention on the slopes) and...

    Clothes for skiing

Do you reckon that a Swedish windproof smock is good enough for outer layer? I'm looking for cheap, breathable solutions, in particular for skiing.

Nevermind, my free days have been redrawn :-( Maybe people who know the answers could post anyhow, for good measure and for other people.

    Nordkapp (North Cape)

I'm planning a roadtrip to Nordkapp, Norway from Belgium, 8th to 18th. So I'll be up in the polar (well, cold) regions from 10th-14th. Any tips and advice? Several people told me I should have snowchains with me, but I don't believe that, there can't be snow there before the middle of september...

Would the real paracord make itself known...

I've got some as well, but I hardly use it. I've stopped using it for mundaine tasks which cheap string or cord is perfectly good for. And when I know there is need for safety rigging, I take climbing cord with me.

    Doc Marten boots?

Don't buy DM, since they have moved to China, the leather is not that good anymore... They do offer a British made boot but it costs lot more (and is made in the Solovair factory, which is the exact same boot, but cheaper). In short: look for Solovair/NPC boots if you want the good old Doc...

How to recognise DD hammock version?

I bought the DD netted hammock here on the groupbuy last year, but can't remember if it's the old one, or the new one that is also usuable as a bivvy. How can I know for sure?

    What size is your pack?

Have a Decathlon 40l pack for 1-2 days and a 70l for more than 2days or lots of food. But I believe both are just too small (or perhaps that's always the excuse). I would prefer 50l and +80l

    Bow Making

Is pine lumber (2x4) somewhat effective for this purpose? I would first want to learn the basics (and do stupid beginners mistakes) on pine leftovers that I have.

    Cotton smocks

Budget is about <100£. The cheapest SASS is about 85£ I believe, however it is a polycotton blend, not pure. The other ones are above 100£ without shipping. Anyhow, I purchased a used army from ebay for 25£, I'll see how it does, I can always save up for a ripstop SASS

    Old-time kit

Didn't find info with the search function, so thought I might mention it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/5076634.stm Some guys (in 2006) tested the old style clothes worn by the Mallory expedition on Mount Everest, and found that the gabardine cotton was superior to their synthetic clothes.

    Rex

Good job! I don't really know if I would have thought anything special about it if I saw it. Would probably have thought that the owner was getting something inside or so. (edit: noticed that there was 20 minutes in between, post is obsolete)

    Cotton smocks

Thanks guys, I always wear wool or PP shirt of course! When it poors, I put on a poncho anyway. I'll remember the bespoke option, but even that will cost a fair bit on a student's budget, I think a SASS is cheaper in that case. I'll have a look around for alternatives though (the Endicotts is...

    Cotton smocks

Hi, I am looking for smocks in cotton (I need breathable fabrics because I sweat a lot) and am investigating the windproof ones. Ventile fabrics are above my budget. I'm still looking into the SASS smock, but I believe the new cheapest version is poly-blend and not 100% cotton. I saw this...
