    Svea 123r with optimus cooksets?

It might baffiliationsrest to other SVEA 123 owners and users that the myti pot from alpkit nests wonderfully, almost like it was made for it. I have no affiliations other than I'm a happy myti pot owner!

    Tea Leaf or Tea Bag?

I use both, at home and outdoors with both black and green teas. I do have a preference for leaves though as tea bags feel such a waste

    UCO lanterns?

Why pay £20 for a new one, I have picked up two of mine from car boot sales for only a couple of quid. I would be interested to know where to get a mould from to make my own candles though!

    UCO lanterns?

I seem to have acquired a few of these over the years, including a nice Brass one and a couple from REI. The brass one is too heavy to carry about so my wife uses it for car camping. I have to say that I've had none of the problems listed here and have not broken one yet, although I can...

    Sooty Billies

I like others here like my pans to be clean inside and out, I don't mind a bit of a trace from the fire on the bottom of my pans but I dislike a thick coat of soot. So like a few others I use a thin coating of washing up liquid to protect them. It makes the clean up simple.

Recycling commercial oven parts to build a camp alter fire for scouts

Now I do like that, we use some wire baskets about the same size as a supermarket basket. But Yours folds down and keeps the fire off the floor! I can see me looking for old ovens soon. What a good idea

Hot assets......(no, its not like those spam emails)

I have been using a pair of Polaris cycling shorts, these are not the usual lycra jobbies, they are nice and baggy with mesh side pockets and a mesh lining to ventilate and keep the heat down :D. Oh yes the cycling pad is removable so you don't have to keep that in and look like you have had an...

New knife, what do you think? and what blade are you carrying?

I have an Enzo which has now been relegated to our Scout Hut as a knife for general duties and live in the box with all the moras, my pack knife is now a Helle much lighter to use and holds a far better edge. There are much more expensive knives about and I guess people will buy what they...

    Does anybody use a Workmate?

Yes i also have one its about 10 years old now and is used all over the house and in my workshop if I need the extra bench space. The best use I get from it is outside at sales and wood fairs. I have a couple of vices one a carpenters and one a mechanics bolted to a piece of ply with a batten...

    My 1st Spoon!! :)

If you want a silky smooth durable finish, use wet & dry instead of sand paper. Use the paper wet with what ever oil you are going to finish the spoon with. The wet & dry produces a very fine dust which when mixed with the oil fills the pores in the timber you are using, the oil then drys...

Fleece blanket sleeping bag cover...or liner?

I made one of these a few years back to help with a old sleeping bag and got another few seasons out of it, but I did have problems with it wrapping around me and being irritating. I added some velcro to the bottom of my sleeping bag to attach the liner which helped somewhat. But eventually i...

    Vango Ultralight 200 ...tent

I have had issues with Vango when I returned a tent that was so badly made it was not fit for use. I then had to chase Vango for 6 months to send the replacement they promised within a week. Neither the tents or the company are what they used to be.

    Screw gate karabiners wtd

If you are going to use these for climbing and absailing you need to buy new. There is no sense in chancing your life on equipment that may have been misused or abused. It really is not worth it.

Buffalo Mountain shirt VS Special 6 ?

I have a special 6, very good piece of kit, I can only echo what has been said previously. I have used mine in my kayak and canoe. I am usually too hot without the pit zips fully undone, even in low temps and driving snow.

    trangia argument

Hi Richard I use one of these, Its achinese copy of an optimus nova. I stripped the burner out and fitted a optimus/trangia conversion kit.The only other mod was to cut a hole in the windshield to let the hose through, (1979 vintage windshield) It was as simple as that. this I hope is the...
