Is there anywhere in the uk sells the small firesteel blanks, found some on google but they were american.

If it's smaller than the 9mm diameter kind, Attleborough Accessories have them in 6.4mm.

Hi Graham, thanks for that but i'm looking for the mini ones like the cadet models, trying to knock up a little lightweight outdoor kit. One option might be halfing one of those!!!!

The shipping across the pond makes it difficult. But you can quite a variety of sizes.

I recently got into using fire steels,although i have found they do vary, with some models being too soft( my web-tex one was not too good), therefore wearing quickly.The main issue was the force and movement needed to get a good spark.I invested in a light my fire Swedish model, and its great, a short smooth strike is all it takes...

I love those things too. I go so far as to light my bbq with them, even though I've got lighters and matches in my pockets. Too much fun. BTW, I've started fires with those firesteels when they were completely wet.
