The Swedish course?

I just arrived in the office, logged on to see how many others where coming and its gone?

Where is the thread?

I thought this Sweden thing was set up especially for the benefit BCUK members and was running at cost so how comes its gone? :?:
SEEMS TO ME something good comes along it is dropped so we can all chat about TV, surely a chance to learn the skills and do the travelling we all talk about is more important than sitting in front of the TV and watching someone else do them?

Gees go figure!

I came to add my name to the list but no list. I pm'd Gary and the thread was removed in fairness to other schools who don't offer us great discounts :?:
I think it was seen as Gary having unfair advantage.

I don't think there is anything which says we can't discuss the great, cheap course we are going on next year though is there  Gary tells me there are 5 confirmed people now and if only 5 more sign up then no need to do a draw for the 10 names. In fact maybe we should tell everyone what a hardship it will be so the numbers don't go up too much.

Then why arnt the woodlaw course threads taken off? eg is anyone going on the journeyman course? As far as i am aware this was a good low priced course for BCUK members, i suggest if you want to go you PM Gary, the course is a test course to iron out any problems which was low priced for us put on by a MAJOR contributer to this site, if anything thats unfair, if any other people want to trial courses and let us benifit from it then happy days, things like that should be spoken about as its all about getting out there and doing it not sitting in and watching about it  and if some one is willing to do us a deal then chatting about its good :?: well isnt it :?: oh and Zac :You_Rock_ matie :biggthump

I think it´s sad that we can´t continue discuss it, but maybe we can come on another solution in the future. because it´s good for both you an us to have an open discssion about the it, you are the ones that are going to decide how future course will be like.

I agree with you Paganwolf. If anyone should be complaining it is Gary who has spent a lot of time. money and personal effort setting up what looks like a great course and one from which the members of this forum could have, AND STILL CAN benefit.

well it is a forum to talk bushcraft and it is a bushcraft site and it is a bushcraft site after all,if any other schools want to tout their business by offering members discounted courses then thats a good thing and beneficial to us all isn't it :?: expecially if the instructors are members on here and actively participate in the forum discussions  if some one was selling cheap knives to us then would that not be ok? :?: same meat different gravy

The way I see it is that we can still discuss it but Gary was not allowed to use the thread as free advertising. However it seems tricky to me to decide when a thread discussing the course (which Gary could comment on) becomes advertising and therefore unfair.

As already said we have had loads of threads discussing who's going on a particular course and each one acts as an advert for those courses. There was a good one recently about the tracking course a few people were on in Devon. These posts serve to promote any course which people go on and want to discuss.

Maybe we just carry on discussing the Sweden course and Gary uses PMs for the details.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on any points Mods.

Thanks

Bill

Why is everyone moaning? Tony posted a new thread for the course.

We were all asking Gary tons of questions that he was kindly answering but the type of questions we asked made it a little commercial to be chat. It's not Gary's fault, it's not Tony's fault, we were the ones asking the probing questions that should have really been directed via e-mail.

Gary did try and say that when he's got the details, we'll have the details and I accepted that.

Every time a moderator/admin does something we can't spend days moaning about it... surely, there are better things to talk about than some petty resentment for someone else running their forum the way they see fit?

Well, regardless of changes to location and the ability to PM Gary it is still a shame that the few (who are probably only worried about personal gain after all) feel they can can spoil things for the many average Joe's who would benefit from such a course. And as Paganwolf has pointed out other threads were allowed to run so why not that one?

Ahem ... let me remind everyone that the decision of the moderators and admins is final. The rules are clearly posted and are there for the protection and benefit of all members.

As far as I am aware Gary has had no problem at all with the change made. It would be a sad day indeed if this forum became consumed by commercialism, selling and advertising.

There are plenty of commercial outlets and opportunities on the Internet that people can take advantage of - this site allows some but not at the detriment of the ethos of the site ... free information for all. We have hundreds of people visiting this site daily and have to cater for the needs of all of them.

Ummm, Zacary, I’d like you to explain this one if you would

Because I really hope that you’re not referring to me or anyone else that spends their own time and money on bcuk. I’ve spent two years planning and working on bcuk, mostly on my own and completely at my own cost (until just a short while ago some generous members that wanted to give something back, helped) that’s meant my family have sacrificed what should rightfully be theirs, so that I could provide a place for people like you, which in your case is free of charge. I've had two years of taking grief for starting bcuk I’ve never been as angry as when I got home tonight, told my kids I would spend time with them later, not now as I’ve got stuff I need to do, and read those few bracketed words.

Bottom line is unless I’ve got the wrong end of the stick, you’re gone. You can PM me and explain if you want, otherwise I’ll presume I’m right and I’ll not loose sleep over it.

I look forward to hearing from you

Tony
