Hi, thought you may like to have a look at my latest carving.

This was ordered by a BCUK member who particularly wanted a flat backed style carving for wall hanging.

Carved from Yew and standing around 14" high, stained and coated with preservative. Hope you like him Dave!

The proportions are great. Big enough to make a statement.
Is the beard detail of cultural significance?

thank you for your supportive and valued comments RV and Fatcode, re the beard detail, beads wraps etc typical of the era in c10 Scandinavia and no doubt elsewhere to this day, but I am by no means any sort of authority, I just like carving. :)

Fantastic, something I need to try. I have Kirschen chip carving knife that has lain idle for far too long. Out of curiousity, just how long have you been making these and how did you learn?

Really superb work!

Hi and thank you, you have a good carving knife there. I have used flexcut for a while, similar. As for how long? Forget exactly about 10 years or so, started with finger sized twigs and it went from there, just self taught really.
