I have recently got back from 7 days in the stunning mountains and glens of the NW Highlands, plenty of rain and a few midges but above all, utter peace and solitude.

Flying up to Inverness I hired a vehicle and set about my journey, my original intention was to hammock where I could. However it soon became clear that would be difficult as the single track roads had no provision for parking and the few I found were strewn with no overnight camping signs. That coupled with a hefty excess on the hire vehicle for damage theft etc led me instead to a lovely wooded campsite in the village of Cannich. I virtually had the place to myself with plenty of hanging space friendly owners and a cracking little onsite café oh and fires allowed, all good!

So for the next 7 days using this as my base I wandered around Glen Affric, Glen Cannich forest and the Fasnakyle forest. taking in Loch Beinn a mheadhoin, loch Affric and Loch Mullardoch.

I'm not going to ramble on instead here are a few photographs to illustrate this beautiful country.

Glad you enjoyed yourself, and the pics are fantastic. You were up in areas I have lived in, and spent many years travelling around. If anyone has time, there is a (sort of) bus service that can get you around the area. The train also winds it's way North to Wick/Thurso, with plenty of remote, some request, drop off points. Most remote areas have an early morning school bus run, so if you get the early bus out before it stars collecting passengers, it's a good start. Likewise,, getting the late afternoon return journey once everyone has been dropped off gets you "home". This has a reasonable service.

and the bus will literally stop anywhere to let you off/collect.

Glen Affric is stunning, and this is a good trip.
