Dogwood?

Think this is some kind of dogwood, but I'm 150 miles away from my books. Could someone please confirm, or otherwise, the Id and advise on edibility/toxicity?

It looks a bit like dogwood but I would expect the berries to be on the end of stalks/branches if it was. It looks more like a buckthorn of some sort to me.

I could be wrong but I think I read that if you pull a dogwood leaf apart gently it will hold together with threads if that makes sense...

Try common buckthorn Rhamnus cathartica. Dogwood doesn't have a serrated leaf, alder buckthorn has a red petiole (leaf stem).

I have to be honest it isn't a species I am particularly familiar with, although it isn't uncommon: see here
