Occasional table..

Made this occasional table(occasionally its a table,occasionally its a stool) to put my drink on for when I'm bronzing the body beautiful
Made from off cuts of I believe ironwood,stuff they use on low loaders for jcbs etc to go on.
Weighs a ton,joints are a bit rubbish but Its solid,so solid my daughter has claimed it for when she has a CIG(dirty habit)
Being a bit careful with money(not tight) grand total of nothing to make,even got the linseed oil from free cycle.
Should out last me,..

Looks like Greenheart to me, close to ironwood, heavy, hard to work and the splinters are the amongst the world's worst for festering and last outdoors for uber yonks!
Never mind the jointing accuracy, it's hard stuff to work with, and you have a functional table for the garden.

Very smart, its come really well after an oiling. Could you make knife scales with this wood? If I remember rightly the bow of Shackleton's ship, the Endurance, was made of greenheart so that it would be able to force its way through the pack ice.

Looks solid mate, all the more kudos for doing it on the cheap, I can relate. So what's your next project then?

Got a base off a Christmas tree about a foot wide,cheese ,looking like a rustic occasional table
And some well seasoned sticks in the shed so may have ago using them for legs..

Tom got an old circular saw blade that I've cut and needs finishing off so may try a bit for the handles.
And I've acquired some old band saw blades to have a play with,bit flexible but should make good scrapers or whittlers.

Its a very functional, minimalist design. I like it
