Hello UK Bush people, new to the forum and new to the idea of bushcraft. This is my first ever post in fact.
I have a friend on Facebook who I have been following his posts about his bushcraft experiences and the such and it has me really interested and wanting to try it myself.
I like the idea of Roughing it but haven't done anything like it since the school Days and even then it was just a few mates drinking and then sleeping in a quarry around a camp fire which we cooked sausages and burgers on!
That just about Sums up my total experience! Poor I know....
I was reading a thread made by leaf man I believe, who is apparently local to me and visits Wombwell woods. I read he was looking to start a group and have camp outs there. It was an old thread (dated 2010).
Not sure if anything ever came if it as the last post was 5 years ago.
So today I got up and dragged my little boy away from his beloved TV and we went and spent just under 6 hours exploring wombwell woods.
This is the first time I have been there before - I have been living in wombwell about a year now! This place is HUGE!
My little boy loved it just as much as I did.
He had been having nightmares recently waking him up, and so after watching a YouTube video on how to make your own dreamcatchers, I decided we would attempt it.
It's fair to say now, my 3 year does not have the patience or the attention span to sit and wind wool around twig for an hour! But I continued whilst he amused himself making fishing rods with sticks and twine and looking for "The Worlds Biggest Stick" and he now has a cool bushcraft dreamcatcher to hang above his bed tonight
If there are any people with experience local to Barnsley or even South Yorkshire that would be willing to meet up and educate me on all things bushcraft, I would love to learn some new skills and meet some new people!
This is my little boy with his new dreamcatchers - the one i made and the one he made
guess who made which one
