Me and my camping buddy have just come back from a couple of nights up at Brockwell woods near Newcastle, a steady 2 and a half hours drive from York.
We had never been there so thought it would be worth a trip up, we weren't disappointed the weather was great, sun no wind and not a drip of rain and to boot we were the only people camping on the site and because of this we seemed to of got the best pitch (8) furthest away from anywhere and right next to a little stream. We will deffo be requesting that pitch when we go again!

We set up camp and I got stuck in to a bottle of Jim bean as my mate started the cooking on his grill over the fire, really good investment on his part we pretty much used it for all cooking and water boiling for the whole trip, only negative was it weighs a lot which makes it a car camping accessory only. I'm going to have a look for an aluminium version for the next Otley trip in November.

It was another trip for me to look at my kit and what I need in my ruck sack and what I'm lugging around for fun, straight away I'm thinking I can loose a knife or two, my "possible" pouch full of gizmos and possibly a stove. I subscribe to the Dave Canterbury "one is non and two is one" motto and currently put around a tatonka stainless spirit burner and an emberlit stainless wood burning stove
Maybe extra weight but we did struggle very much with wet wood over the few days and the problems that causes getting a brew on.

I also had a little accident with the axe when the wood was getting low and we needed more chopping, I'd had too much "rehydration" and although I had a first aid kit with me I realised it was woefully under stocked and a complete token gesture on my part, something I'll be sorting out soon.

If you've never been to Brockwell I couldn't recommend it enough, it's far enough or of the way to feel like you're getting back to basics but close enough to Newcastle to be in easy reach of butchers/supermarkets for supplies!
Just remember it's a wild camping site and you dig your own toilet, there's no wash room etc etc.

Anyway, to the pics.

Enjoy

We go to brokkers a few times a year. Nearly always a good do.

It's grand to see others enjoying it. You can buy meat at the farm ;)

eggs shouldn't dance with stones.....

Unfortunately there was no one there the day we turned up, it was pre-arranged and they told us we could sort ourselves out, otherwise I'd of been right in there for meat off them!

Would recommend the place all day long now, just a bit far especially now we've got otley to look forward to which is all of twenty minutes drive for me lol

as soon the Mrs is back on her feet, pumps and drains etc removed, long story, I NEED to spend a couple or more nights there, spent at least 3mth in a tent last yr, not 1 night yet this yr, had a multi-level spinal fusion in march and need to work it now, swinging axes, carrying rucksacks etc, looks like just the place to go and mull over the crap that's hit our family over the last 2yr and try to make some sense of it, and enjoy some solitude,

sry for offloading a bit,
