My first attempt. It's a kit knife but taught me a lot. The instructions were good and it was handy to have everything you need in one go. I'd do it better if I could have another go but still love it.

I made 2 side by side for my first. It was my first time making anything, it was the first time i had used the tools i bought to do it with. July 2009 i made these.

I still have them, use them for rough stuff and, not had to sharpen them yet and they've cut through ice, shed roofing felt etc.

My first (and only so far) attempt, old file for the blade. Kitchen work top (think beech?) offcuts for the scales and a bit of brass rod for the pins. Not the best effort I fear!

being a total novice when i first started made the blade from the wrong steel, i wondered why it was so hard to heat treat...;) my second was much better as it was heat treatable...:)

I'm not a knife maker, but I've slapped on a couple of handles now.

Yes it is short and stubby 3 fingers to grip but it's for the missus and her small hands also it was made from off cuts steel/wood.
the steel pins are from my boys first baby bed .
I think it needs some file work on the spine for a thumb grip.
Also planning to etch it for her .
We both get carpet tunnel so the chunky handle also helps .
But I'd agree it is a little on the stumpy side

I scrounge most of my scales and wood from a mate, who's a carpenter, blanks from ebay, Heinnies, off here and scrap metal/saw blades, pins made from nails, old copper or brass dowels, sheathes made from scrap leather or plastic case from 13kv cable found in lay-by.
