Wonder if you could do me a favour and finish these sentences for me:

A typical scout is...

Someone joins the scouts to...

Scouting is..

Please be honest - if you think someone joins the scouts to play with fire and sharp knives then let me know. I'm not looking for the official "Scouting values".

eg.

A typical scout is an outdoors type who enjoys adventure
Someone joins the scouts to learn new skills and meet like minded folk
Scouting is learning to appreciate and utilise the great outdoors

As a background I'm looking at developing a game that appeals to the same people scouting appeals to so wanted to make sure I focus on the right values/activities.

Many thanks

Mike

Right here goes:

1. anyone of any age, race, creed or background - we are all typical scouts or should be.
2. play with Fire and knives and whilst doing so develops a sense of self worth and respect for all things.
3. Scouting is a way of life and is contagious. It should have a government health warning.

I've posted the first things I thought off and then tried to make them sound sensible.

I don't think there is any other Youth movement acceptable to so many diffrent races, countries or religions.

A typical scout is... unique, but the same as the Scout next to him. It is a 'brotherhood' after all
Someone joins the scouts to... do things that they don't normally get a chance to & enjoy themsselves
Scouting is... about having fun, learning 'stuff' and becoming a better person through the experience

Probably get in trouble but in the interest of honesty: A Scout is not an atheist.

I AM a scout leader (as some may be aware)...Below are reflex answers, which may be more accurate than any considered ones I may post...

A typical scout is... "Apart" from the crowd.

Someone joins the scouts to... Explore, develop and fulfill (on many levels) though they not be aware of it at the time.

Scouting is.. Preparation for life.

2 sets of answers - first wordy and slightly 'on message'
A typical scout is... a well rounded individual, more 'switched on' than others of their age.

Someone joins the scouts to... have fun and learn.

Scouting is.. a worldwide movement to make good citizens.

Other answers more light hearted
A typical scout is... non-existent, anyone and everyone can be a Scout.

Someone joins the scouts to... have fun.

Scouting is.. brilliant and hard to pin down.

I would love a collated copy of the answers if possible, would be interesting to talk about with my explorer scouts. Message me for my email.

Here are my thoughts:

A typical scout is....... self reliant, confident, mischievous.

Someone joins the scouts to.... camp, make friends and have fun.

Scouting is.... an approach to life that allows individuals to achieve things they never thought possible.
