I was at West Bexington yesterday early evening and also caught loads of mackerel... 3 on the first cast :)
Andy did you see the small beam trawler running parallel to the Chesil... it must have scooped up tons!
We cooked ours on the beach and threw the smaller ones back, some of the fat ones...

I'm not so sure about using hazel, if you intend drilling holes to feed the cord through it may lead to the poles splitting.
If seasoned they would be stronger but knowing how easy it is to cleave hazel with a billhook it may be worth experimenting first to avoid disappointment.

As the title suggests I'm moving on my Hilltrek Glencoe.
It has faded a little but I like that, the performance is unaffected.
