Good point - but I'm pretty darned certain. Paxillus involutus has a shaggier cap... also, the one I captured does not have a cap that curls over really. But I wouldn't eat it anyway until I had done all the tests - examined the stem, spore print, smell, all the tests recommended. Cheers!

Hello - the stump was on a log that appears to have been cut off a year or two ago - all the bark has rotted off. They were growing from degraded areas within the rings of the wood.
