    New from maker of Sissipuukko.

J-P Peltonen who is the maker of Sissipuukko used to be in Fiskars village. The company Fiskars have never had anything to do with Sissipuukko or Varustelekas knives. Fiskars company used to make steel but sold that part of their business in the 50´s. https://fiskarsvillage.fi/en/

    New from maker of Sissipuukko.

Fiskars don´t make steel. Knife is made by Laurin Metalli in Kauhajoki but where the steel is made I have no idea.

    Water outlet.

I´ve solved this by being like bears. That is hybernating through the winter. Well almost. Fact is wintertime I go outside only when I must; go to work or shop for food. Otherwise I sit inside and would not dream of camping.

Anyone remember wire saws, 40+ years ago, that cut?

Why bother when there are so many good folding saws.

    Smart 'phone apps for bushcraft.

I use maps.me to download and use maps in my smartphone. Downloaded maps are stored in your phone and can be used with your smartphones GPS without any phone or internet connection whatsoever. Only connection needed is to the GPS-satellites so in a forrest with thick canopy GPS might not work...

How do warm blooded people cope

Have to keep in mind it is not the downs that isolate, it is the air that the downs trap. The more compressed downs are the less air in the filling and the lesser air means lesser insulation. Insulation is all about binding air.

Activity / background on clothing terminology.

This original Denison smock looks to have only a half zip so it is an over the head smock. I guess the name smock just lived on allthough modern military jackets have a full long zipper. For me personally this garment here is an anorak.

Fiskars tools - are they plastic tat?

Reason why I like Fiskars (have two axes; X5 and X7) is that I don´t use the very often and therefore do not want to spend over 100 euros for a traditional wood handled axe. Fiskars are more affordable. I have a Gränsfors small forest axe that I bought in my stupidity some years ago but that...

How do warm blooded people cope

My girlfriends apartment is heated by electric radiator and electricity is rather expensive, her electric bill is about 100 euros/month. So she tries to save on heating, this winter she had about +13-14C in bedroom and about +18 in living room. Frickin´cold until one gets under the duvet.

How do warm blooded people cope

I can´t even understand how it is possible to get the apartment up to that temperature. To quote Shakespear (sort of): Something is rotten in claim of an 40 degrees apartment.

Is that Celsius or Fahrenheit? If Celsius it is no wonder that you can´t stand cold. I would die if my appartmen was so hot, +20 C is about right for me. We don´t even get +40 ever. Hottest summer it can get to +30 outside for a short period. But that is unusual.
