I've got a Dutch army canteen and two canteen cups. I've also got a US army canteen and cup and issue canteen stove similar to those suggested above. While the Dutch cups are very similar to the American ones and you can make the canteen stove work, they don't fit together as nicely.

You may like some of Prepared Pathfinder's stuff.

+1 for this idea by the way. I've added a bit of cord to the end of a loo brush with a couple of nuts (as in nuts n bolts) at the end. Makes a decent enough "pull through".

Or another option: get a lid made up for your mess tin. Have a look at woodlorien on eBay, which is where I got mine for a tenner or thereabouts (otherwise no connection).

I wouldn't be surprised if that was true; they're certainly not something that I would consider carrying.
