    Quite wisky

Sort of hand craft related. In the kitchen but simplifying as I have given up the electric whIsk in favour of a fork or a very basic hand whisk. Makes better omelettes and batter so must consider for pancakes et al in the open. I think it was Jack Cox in his books on camping that admired the...

Just checked and I see that 4 times is reccommended for the string and I suppose my few more gets close to that. Use 4 to be safe.

    Cordage Conundrum

Simple arithmetic works for bowstrings. Eg. linen thread 7lb breaking strain. 50lb bow so three times that means we need roughly 150lb breaking or 21 threads plus a few more. Never had a break even though one end is knotted and the other spliced into a loop.

    Contacting private land owners

And there was I being told some time ago how easy it was to find the owners for overnight travelling bivvies. Of course it is difficult, if not impossible.

    I remember Raymond.

Saddest thing I ever saw was a post somewhere, "getting to be forty so will have to take it easier". It is true that you are only as old as the women you feel. I say no more but my wife claims to be only 21.

Open fires in Scotland not allowed ?

A compromise was in force in Savernake Forest at its barbecue site. No legal over night camping but purpose built barbecues available and could be fueled by gathered dead wood. Made for a great experience and cleared up possible fire hazards from around the area. Modern life being what it is I...

    Met a knife idiot

To partially answer this I invented an imaginary reenactment group called The Here and Now society. Because there are groups reenacting the past and assorted groups doing Star Wars etc it seemed reasonable that there should be a group reenacting the present. This means that the costumes and kit...

    Met a knife idiot

Why would you report him to the police? Would you like this to happen to you?

    Met a knife idiot

We all have our enthusiasms and they change over the years. Bit sad if someone he thought was interested in similar things reported him for a non-crime. Obviously pointing out current law and prejudices would not do any harm. I wonder what some would think of my recent acquisitions of a...

Carrying fixed blades whilst wild camping

Thin end of the wedge. People cease to do something lawful because they are afraid it might not be. This is wrong.

    Traveller's food old style

Prehistoric Henges by Burl, Shire Archaeology. Is about as factual as you can get. Slim book and very much a summary but useful.

    Traveller's food old style

When an organised religion is invented then travelling priest, freeloading as you move became possible.

    Traveller's food old style

Trader yes, cargoes on boats and maybe pack ponies. Lone traveller I was thinking of but maybe you could sign on to a caravan as a porter or guard. If I were a trader in the Bronze Age I would concentrate on salt and honey. Non- perishable with care and somewhat addictive.

You know that they had money before it was invented? The proble is what did they do before?
