Hey All, just wondering if anyone was up to anything in Aberdeenshire with all this snow?

Not had the chance to go out and have a play yet and doubt I will til after christmas.

Walking in Ballochbuie forest near Braemar all day today. Snow and scenery perfect.

Flight from Dyce delayed by 30 hours.
Currently in South Britain, with the rural landscape made festive by the twinkling lights of stranded cars.
Worried if the pipes'll be intact when we get back.

My hobbit hole had an unexpected visitor, a bloody fox, bugger has crapped all over the place,
Ah well, at least he was nice and warm.

What was the weather doing while we were away ?
The snow has at least two clear ice strata; and, clearing the drive, I've been finding fossilised car tracks. But what a beautiful noise it makes as the layers yield underfoot.

Pipes OK (thank fricative). No foxes, just rabbits on our turf, judging by the tracks; although it appears that something with a longer pace may have been scouting the boundaries. [saw what I take to have been classic brush marks in fresher snow while in Englandshire]

More of a tipi than a hobbit hole, but the cats have become a bit too fond of the kids' debris shelter. I'm choosing not to dig into the floor to see if it's become a latrine.

Hi yeah I would be up for a winter hike, went up on the bennachie range a few days ago and its great. would be a great oportunity to do some tracking. When are you planning to go on your next hike? Im thinking of going on the 6th or 7th

Have a look in my last picture in the thread below, we have had plenty of snow where I am and seeing as its my first winter in my new house I hate snow ploughs... (not really, they are doing an okish job here) they just dump all the lovely snow mixed with slushy stuff into your driveway entrance. Lovely people. Plenty of shovelling

Hey outdooractivist, no idea when I will next be heading up there, just went up a local hill the other week and realised how very unfit I have gotten. So no idea how I would cope with Bennachie at the moment in the snow. Sadly Im back to work tomorrow so back to the lovely desk job.

Ah yeah back to reality Im back to University in a week or so to sit infront of a computer eugh.
Have you got much bushcraft experience? Ive found a great wee cave up on Bennachie which is great for minimal camping and mannaged to try it out just before all the snow.

That will be Harthills cave on Craigshannoch I suspect. It faces north and can be quite cold and windy.

I have heard about this cave but never been to it. Must go along to it sometime so leave behind some rations

I have a little experience, really going to try and get out more this year, just need a few more bits of kit. I was on a course earlier this year with woodsmoke and thoroughly enjoyed it. But my skills are probably basic.

You work at Aberdeen university? Teaching or staff? I graduated a couple years ago in Geology and Im still there part time in Archaeology.

We have been in our new house for just over a month now, used to stay in the city but wanted to move to the countryside.

Hi guys...don't know if you managed to get out and about on Bennachie as you seemed to be planning to do...it has been some time since your last post in this thread. Being as I live just a little below Craigshannoch, I'd be pleased to tag along if there is a hike in the offing. I've not been on much lately and may have missed other threads on this subject...drop me a PM sometime...?
