Building up to making my buckskin haversack
Chatting with a friend she asked me what i intended to sew with to which i replied artificial sinew.
Apparently that was the wrong answer and i was promptly told you cant sew with that I'll judge you

For some reason the thought of her Judging me is intimidating so i found myself cutting lacing from an offcut of buckskin and practicing a selection of stitches with it on another scrap of buckskin

now the kettles gone cold and i'm thinking next time i'll just keep my mouth shut and do what i planned to do initially

Can you get the backstrap sinew from a deer, Sam ?
It's flatter than the leg sinews, much easier to prep, splits easily, nice length to sew with too, and as finely as you like as well.

On t'other hand artificial sinew's easy to work with. Just it seems a bit maybe not quite 'right' when you've gone to all the effort of the buckskin.

Just my tuppence ha'penny worth, I think I'm with your friend on this one :dunno:

:D

I gave away the last I had not two months ago
You might ask around; there's usually someone who had good intentions of using sinew and ended up just stock piling it for a bit. Probably happy to find it going to a good home.

I use artificial sinew for loads of stuff... but I buy in my leather! (and I still feel dirty doing it)...
If you have gone to the lengths you have to make your own leather you owe it to yourself to make real sewing materials.
St. Theresa showed us how to make sinew and gut threads... if you cannot get the sinew buy some "natural sausage skins " (gut) from a sausage makings supplier and make gut thread!
You know you want it right!
