The people over at the Pathfinder school (self reliance outfitters) are flogging the Pathfinder logo patches (as made in the USA by Duluth) for $3.00 each at the moment on sale. I worked out that the most economic way to get them shipped over was to buy five. I have just taken delivery of them this morning and they are nice understated patches. I think all five cost me £18.50 including shipping. I thought one or two of you might be interested.

So are you selling on one or more of the 5?

I'll buy one via PayPal if you are.

Cheers

No I am not selling guys. It is surprisingly easy to find half a dozen or more items that would suit them and I think they are rare enough in the UK to make good identification markers for my bags and sacks. As for what they look like? Well they are just like as advertised although 3" across seemed bigger in my mind when I ordered them but I guess not being able to judge and inch is fairly typical for a fella it just normally seems bigger rather than smaller.

Alone now.
I just looked at their site and the patch but decided not to. $3.00 for the patch is a good deal but their cheapest postage (for 1 patch mind) was $6.00. So for me the postage is a bit over the top considering it can go in an envelope with a stamp on it.

I thought anything bought from over the pond with a value over £12 incurred handling fees and import fees adding up to another £10+..?

The buggers charged me every single damn time.

I'd have one if a groupy was organised.

Not sure I get the point of paying to advertise someone elses brand... They look nice n all. But if they want me to be a walking billboard they should be paying me! :)

The same could be said about posting pictures of knives, tools, gear etc you own that are made by anyone but yourself.

And it's not like you're stitching a silly Nike logo on your jacket, it's a little more relevant to the forums basic interests. And Dave Canterbury is actually a pretty cool guy.

I think buying something that has a purpose then recommending it for that purpose is different.

And it's exactly like sewing a Nike logo on a no name jacket. Just in our arena not a sporting one. But I wouldn't do either.

Anyhoo whatever makes folks happy. I just don't get it. Would rather have an original logo.

99.9% of the world has no idea who the image on the patch would directly refer to. 99.9% of the world would recognize the image as relating to out doors type stuff. I genuinely do not see how the average person or even the average outdoors person would see it as an advertising patch. I bought them because I liked the image on the patch not because of its associations with the company and I would guess that would be the same for most people.

That of course prompts suggesting you design your own and have leather stamp made by a BCUK member.

My avatar is an example of what can be achieved in terms of detail.

All you need then is a #7 or 8 pricking iron and a wee bit of skill to attach.

That sounds like a lot more hassle and cost than clicking to order a bunch of nice ready done leather patches that are quickly delivered to your door. To each their own.

‎Indeed but forgive me observing that your mindset  in this matter does rather suggest the antithesis of what my hunting soul mate, Ray Mears, has lead me to believe might be expected of those given of a Bushcraft-like gene and for the most part is evidenced by the contributions to this forum.

Put another way, why bother to witness the spectacle that is the aurora borealis care of the energy and expense required to get beneath an unpolluted Northern sky when you might kick-back in your easy chair with a glass of wine and hit the Google button?

Subtly Ad Hominem?

It was said a little tongue in cheek. :p

Obviously you have the impression, from the wilds of Kent, that my latest excitement over Cinch! pop up tents indicates I am an armchair Bushcrafter. Not so, I spend more time than most under a tarp in the woods. My good friend who has lived and worked in the woods since the age of 14 is also excited about getting his Cinch pop up tent. "To each there is a season, a time for war, a time for peace, a time to rough it and a time for pop up convenience." A little poetic license used there but I wasn't going to look it up as I don't like Google, don't drink and don't have an easy chair, oh and I'm currently prepping to disappear off into the woods again.

I am also somewhat widely travelled and though I haven't seen the Northern Lights from under unpolluted skies I have seen them from Space.

As for Ray Mears, I have it on high authority that he likes nothing more, when hunting down his next meat supply, to pop into McDs and grab a big juicy 1/4lb Cheese Burger. How do you think he got his lean outdoorsy physique, it isn't from munching on Caribou?

I hope you make it to the Moot, you sound like a good laugh and have skills to share. Oh and bring some wine and a comfy chair to the NC, we already have internet. :D
