About the Site

The site is a functioning scout camp, we are lucky enough to have built a great relationship with the warden and are pretty much given free reign.

There are 10,000 standing Tree’s majority Oak although there are birch and beech on the site as well as a few others.

There is a VERY large field that can be used for tents etc. this is flanked by woods on both sides. Also at the bottom of the field is another wooded area ALL of which is scout land. The boundary on the left (looking down the field with Martin Lodge behind you) is the stream. On the right the boundary is the road that runs towards the garden centre. At the bottom the boundary is where the rail track meet the Motorway. The site as a whole covers 54 acres, so there is no issue with space.

There is a fully functional Shower block with 3 electric showers, sinks, urinals and 5 toilets. There is also access to drinking water on the site.

There are a few rules that need to be followed to allow us all to have a good time without damaging the relationship that we have built.

Please take a few mins to read through this post to familiarise yourselves as failure to adhere to these rules may mean you being asked to leave the site

Thanks in advance

*There is ample room if you want to be away from the group by all means do so.

* Toilet blocks are to be left clean! (offering to do these will be of great help as I usually get left to do them)

*All litter must be removed from site, there is NO site bin so if you brought it with you take it out or burn it please (not whilst others are cooking) Yes this is on here twice as several meets myself and others have ended up with a lot of rubbish left on site which we then had to shift…. This is NOT acceptable if you bring it you shift it.

I usually walk to the site from the station.
Come out of the station and follow the A667, then turn off onto the road just before the river. Follow that until you come to a little bridge across the river (should be about opposite a pub/restaurant). Cross over the river, then follow Fold Road until it turns into Red Rock Lane. Follow Red Rock Lane until you come to the garden centre. At this point there should be a dirt track which goes off uphill at 90 degrees to the road. Follow this track and you should arrive at the camp site.
As far as I know all of these roads are open and can be walked down. Hope that helps :)

Thnx, I think I've seen the route you mean. Cant plot it on Gmaps though. Will look into it more :)

[edit] Were you referring to Kearsley station bud? That Fold road seems to be a long way round from Clifton?

I'll be arriving at Clifton as there are no trains on Sunday from Kearsley? I think I have found a track that goes along teh river upto Red Rock Lane.

Here's a Google map of Nalsheen's route...

It's a difficult place to get to on foot on a Sunday. It'd be much easier on a Friday or Saturday. Generally someone will give you a lift to Whitefield tram to go home on Sunday.

This is a useful site.

Thanks. That was the route I was planning to take originally but it doesn't look like there are any trains back home on Sunday for me so would have to come from Clifton.

I've seen a couple of different routes according to Gmaps from Clifton but sure there will be some shortcuts. It looks like there is a track from Rake Ln next to station that goes flush with the train track and then upto flush with the river until it gets upto top near Red Rock ln.

[edit] Ah damn, just realized there isn't any on Sunday from Clifton either.

Thanks, that would be great bud. :)

Doesn't look like there is any trains anywhere local on Sunday so only other alternative would be train and bus or to have a overnighter somewhere on Sunday or B&B etc or leave on Saturday which I dont really fancy.

The best public transport on Sunday to or from is the Metrolink tram to/from Whitefield. Even if there's engineering work, there's a replacement bus service, (I know, I used it today). Frequent and usually reliable service to Manchester Victoria and Piccadilly rail stations if you're going by train. It's also cheaper than the regular bus service. From Whitefield, it's about a 30 minute walk to Giants Seat, and all on one road, so less chance of getting lost.

Hope this helps.

Alan.

Thanks Alan, sounds good. Just looked at Gmaps and its not too far from Whitefield so that could be a good option. And if I'm lucky enough I may be able to cadge a lift off somebody back to Whitefield from GS on the Sunday :D

I'm still unclear if I can make this yet as something else I had planned may be clashing so going to leave me on list as (TBC) still. Will update as soon as I know either way.
