Some of you may have seen it mentioned in another thread. I'm based near Penshaw Hill and am aware there are a few members from the local area. I like many have limited time due to work and family for overnight meets. Who is from the local area and would be interested in having some mini meets. Thinking penshaw woods or somewhere by the river coxgreen/fatfield.

My vote is for penshaw wood. 5Mins walk for me lol. I work alternate weekends and have alternate Mondays off. For me personally the Monday is best. Kids are at school and the wife's at the gym. Had a very nice few hours up penshaw woods yesterday only saw 1 dog walker.

Fletcer cres in Herrington? I'm in penshaw mate. But That's reminded me of another wood. Herrington woods used to go over there occasionally when I was a kid. Never been in there for about 20 years.

For anyone looking for a bit more variety of flora, fauna, geology/landscape and space, you could do a lot worse than Chopwell Wood. Obviously not quite on the doorstep but only about 25-30 mins drive from Sunderland. No FC Rangers to worry about any more ( apparently its only worth checking once a month), the only thing to watch out for is bikes but you can "lose yourself" very easily in the wood if you wish to do so. Anyone actually "lost" in the wood, really just needs to look for the power lines and follow them or the forest tracks uphill till you hit the tarmac road, the car park or the old railway line, then follow the signs.

Good luck and if you do fancy a look around Chopwell, I might even join you to show you around sometime.

nice info Steve can't believe a nice place like chopwell isn't worth the FC rangers time to check on sad signs of the times I suppose

Any developments on this? I'm working everyday until the second week of March so that would be my earliest availability.

Nothing yet. I'm off next week got to use up my holiday entitlement. Will be heading up penshaw woods or somewhere while I'm off. Got to fit my mini adventures as the kids call them between the usual family stuff. If I'm of the Monday when your off we may be able to sort something.

Hi all! I am new to bushcraft and looking for others in the area! I'm looking for woods in the area to camp and also meet up with others as my normal camping mate doesn't have the availability I do.

I have brockwell woods (blaydon burn farm) on my door step that allow fires too! £8 per night which is a good site but also looking for other natural sites if any of you know of any?

If any of you guys are still looking to do a meet up while there's still a little summer left I'd be more than up for it :)

I'm new around here so I'm just trying to get to know some folks. I live in Carrville at the minute but I can get to anywhere within a 10 mile radius pretty easily.
