Hi all,
I am just wondering if I can carve a spoon out of green cherry pieces of wood. as a tree doctor / surgeon left a few small branches around. any help would be appreciated. cheers the interceptor boy.

Don't see why not. Cherry is lovely wood, and I've made some spoons with it. Being green it should carve well, and so long as you don't leave it too thick it should dry without splitting.

My favourite spoon was made from ivy - 45 minutes from cutting the living wood to the finished spoon, and it is my standard eating implement in my field kit.

yup, of course you can. if you cannot finish making the spoon in one go pop it in the fridge to suspend the drying out

......trust me. I have points.

in response to the OP, mrcairney (he of the many many points) offers some good advice there, look for threads by robin wood or kepis, between them they've pretty much got the subject covered. good luck with your carving, show us how you get on

The spirit of Kepis and Robin helped me get from this:
