Hi all
This morning in one of the tree in my back garden, I found this Mushroom growing on one of the tree trunk? I have NO knowledge what so ever with wild Mushrooms picking ? I know there are some of them are deadly poison! But how about this please in the photo! Any idea is it safe to eat ? I don’t want to take the risk and pick them and end up in a wooden box... anybody got the knowledge and he or she can identify the species? ...please let me know ...... cheers

Looks like honey fungus, Armillaria mellea, although I wouldn't eat it based on a i.d. from a single photo posted online. Further details here:

I'm puzzled by the photo though, it looks like it was taken a few months ago. I would have thought it would be frosty in Wales today?

It’s a tree behind my garden shed and I have non finishing project on the top for small tree house, beside this spot I used frequently with the kids , and it’s protected with small wooden boards from each side to keep the kids away from climbing to the tree house until it safely finished... I notice the growth few weeks ago , but I ignored, because mushroom are just few quid from the supermarket. Just a curiosity to know if this mushroom is safe and what species?

Wow good find! Can you take some photos of an intact individual? Particularly close ups of the stem base, stem and where the stem joins the cap, and gills. A close up of the cap top will help too. Also, what tree is it on? And a rough idea of location can also help.

Are there any other trees / plants nearby, honey fungus can infect healthy trees and plants.
The fallen leaves in your photo look like maple.

I am not sure what species!!?? I cut them off and I burn them all ... I am concern that the kids may pick them up and eat them .... a risk I don’t wanted to happen specifically that area of the shed and unfinished tree house project, kids always around in that place ..... ( I got 3 maple trees in my garden )
