Is 'prepping' or 'preparedness' an acceptable discussion on this forum?

I'm not about to dig a bomb shelter in my garden or start stock piling ramen noodles , but I have come to realise that as an outdoorsman, I have the same or similar gear that a 'prepper' would consider important.

I've become interested in EDC and prepardness now as well and I find it interesting that it appears I carry a lot of gear that is considered EDC! .

Does anyone else think as a 'prepared person'?

Question - when does Preparedness start and being Self-reliant / Resourceful finish?

I think there are many here that are self confessed preppers , some that don't want to admit it but show all the signs ( if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck etc ) and some that are just not and maybe never will be..

Is it important to label the interests under ONE term???

Personally, being an ex brownie and girl guide I was brought up on "be prepared"
I always like to think I'm pretty prepared for most things and aware enough to see a situation developing and take action such as with the present situation.
I started to prepare mid February was done by March 8th and locked down on that date much earlier than most.
I don't consider myself a prepper in the you tube sense but I have had a grab and go bag since the late 70s.
Life often throws curved balls so being prepared is normal for me. This includes learning about wild food and how to use it. That has come in handy more than once when money was tight.
Always have heating supplies candles and lanterns spare gas and cooker to cook with if electric goes off.
I like to think if the grid goes down or something realy serious happens ( short of nuclear war) I'm ready for it and will cope.

Well I lived near an American nuclear missile base. (The famous one that had a woman's camp)
It was also handy for impromptu trips. All I had to do was grab my bag and I could take off for the weekend.
Friday 5pm finish work.. Friday 6.30pm on my way to the coast or a motorcycle rally somewhere.

I think you're right, labels are such a 'thing these days.....

I do consider myself 'prepared' for most sudden and unexpected situations. So I guess I cover both genres.... lol

I mean , I don't know what you think a Prepper should be doing? How they should act?

But lets say you are a Keen Outdoors person , as such you've also studied some First Aid in case you have a Boo-Boo moment and you also have a surplus of camping equipment to assist your Green Lane 4x4 driving interest. Different interest equal a fairly PREPARED individual.

So when I ask what you think Preppers DO its all a bit subjective.

Sorry WG , I just found your line of " I don't consider myself a prepper in the you tube sense but I have had a grab and go bag since the late 70s." Funny after I wrote the post above it " I think there are many here that are self confessed preppers , some that don't want to admit it but show all the signs ( if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck etc ) and some that are just not and maybe never will be.."

My uncle Dennis was a garage full of asda smart price beans and rice. He isn't a prepper, just a bit crazy.

Ok Alison , so what do Preppers do then? What are the signs you are looking for so you can identify them? Just asking :)

Uncle Dennis - Maybe he's just a tad eccentric. He's your uncle , he's allowed to be.

Terribly sorry, but I'm not sure what point you're making?

As an ex-Scout Leader "Be Prepared" is part of my DNA...
I have taught "Survival" written for various "Survival" magazines and think as a "preppper" with food and drink in store plus skills to "make do and mend" to get through "situations".
Covid-19 is not a disaster for me (so far) more like retirement! :)

Survival and Prepping has and always will be a crapshoot with luck playing a bigger role than exponents would like to mention, for in an uncertain world there is no one solution or must have gadget that will ensure your safety. Tools, infrastructure & training may sway the odds a little in ones favour however you have to be alive in the first place to use them.

Being prepared is only sensible. Being a prepper? If that's what being prepared is then I guess I'm a prepper... but then so are squirrels and dormice. :)

Sorry , I'm not trying to put you on the spot or make you feel uncomfortable I'm just enquiring is it not enough to just " be prepared " as much as one wishes in a variety of fields and interests without needing to label it as 'Prepperism' ?
