Can still hear some bats though not as well as I used too, used to be able to hear the electricity in the walls whenn it was very quiet. Not anymore though shooting and working with Belzeebob as a roady saw to that.

Yes, and I am in my late forties! Like the OP I can hear sound based 'deterrents'. There is a European Union building near where I live and they use some form of sonic deterrence, possibly to convince house martins not to nest on their nice shiny new building. :(

My hearing has become really, really bad :( :sigh:
However, I can still hear the high pitched sounds, so birds, bats, electrical things, dog whistles, etc., I can hear no bother. I even hear the phone ring in the house when I'm outside in the garden.
I just can't hear male mumbles  or someone behind me, and the telephone is a real struggle.

Is this known as "wife selective hearing"?

Men have a similar condition and can also suffer from "lack of tidyness blindness" :)

I can hear the one that flies up and down the back of our house most nights, I think it's a little Pipistrelle but it never stops still long enough to get a good look at it. He does laps up and down the back of the houses on our street, the security lights get triggered which then attracts the insects, pretty clever really.

We have Pips roosting in our roof during certain parts of the yearly cycle. We can tell when they are home by the piles of poo on the windowsills!

Here is a screenshot I took with my phone using an app called SpectralPro Analyser. I could see the bat but I couldn't hear him.

The bright line in the middle at just over 9kHz is his squeak. The green fuzz at the bottom is background traffic noise.

It's an android app. Google "SpectralPro Analyzer" and you should find it in the Play store.
It gives you a graphical representation of the sounds being detected by the phones built in microphone. The colour shows how loud the sound is and its vertical position shows its frequency. The horizontal axis is time and the display scrolls across while it is runnning.

I use it when I have my "sound man" hat on as a quick way of identifying nasty feedback resonances.

There is a freebie version that shows you how the app works, but you need to get the pro version to be able to set the frequency high enough for bats.

I thought I'd look and see if there is an equivalent app for ios, but this is what I found:

"The iphone mic is designed for human hearing range and has nowhere near the range to pic up even the lowest frequencies bats."

Also:

"The built-in and headset microphones of all recent iOS device models pass through a high-pass filter which significantly attenuates low-frequency signal content."

Sorry!
