The Trangia bottles are very strong plastic and the safety pourer makes refilling very easy so well worth getting, stopp faffing about and buy one or two, come in different sizes, shop around for the best price these are money well spent.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Doutdoor&field-keywords=trangia+fuel+bottle I've used nothing else for years now and not just for meths, paraffin and naptha too without problem.

What he said :) right tool for the right job. I use a 300ml triangia meths bottle

I have a couple of them and I find they leak past the plunger bit when pouring. I saw a mod on YouTube which suggested using an o-ring to help create a seal when you push the safety stopper in to pour but it still leaks and I get fuel all over the place.

Anyone else have the same issue, or am I doing something wrong?

That only happens if you open the screw cap fully, try opening it less and you'll find you have no problems.

Important to remember that meths isnt methanol, it is a mixture of primarily ethanol (somewhere between 80-90%) and a much smaller amount of methanol (less than 5%). Pure methanol could have a very different reaction with the metals.

Although I do own a Sigg water bottle I do find them to be a triumph of advertising over function. Not really impressed with them.
I find plastic water bottles to be better.

I'm sure that someone will be along to tell me how long they've had one but drop it on the deck and its dented, it will survive a lot of dents but you can play football with a placky bottle and they cost nowt.

I buy my meths from my local chemist in 500ml plastic bottles although I could buy in larger quantity elsewhere.

Usually I buy about 2 a fortnight, so I have plenty kicking about; just in case. I've looked at getting Trangia fuel bottles etc but can't be bothered faffing about decanting from one to the other. I've never even used the wee plastic bottle that comes with the SAT.

The bottle they are sold in is adequate for me to be honest.

Can see your point of view. But years ago out with a friend when he had a whole bottle of petrol or paraffin (cant remeber witch) leak in his backpack lol not really funny, the mess it made you had to see. I went out and got some sigg bottles.
£4.95 for fuel bottles and £5.95 for water ones some years ago. they all came with pourer spouts back then too.
My fuel goes in ally bottles and they go in my side pouches on my backpack, no way will i let what happend to my friend happen to me.
