Young cramp ball?

Hello good folk of BCUK.

I came back from a week away on business today and the below was on my woodpile. Forgive my ignorance but my first thought was it must be a young cramp ball, but I've never seen a early example. Can anybody put me right on this?

I agree. Young cramp balls are purplish.
