Hi,

At a mates drinking ales and throwing logs onto the woodburner and my mate asked me if I knew this wood as it's rock hard (splitting maul didn't make light work of it at all) and burns for ages. I don't know I said but I know a man (or woman) who will...

Could be Hawthorn that is a very hard wood and burns really well it has a pinkish flame to it.

Beech for sure. The wrinkles around the branch union are a giveaway and the almost chequered pattern to the split face with a light colour.
