A some interesting angles here are the use of brass shells that have been in service a long time, some for a very long time. Seating the primers with a spoon was unique. Something interesting and very old school was the use of sawdust for wads. Not only is it cheap, but unlike plastic wads, sawdust wadding is immune to the insane cold of the Russian winter. All in all, that tip alone could be useful.
