Just taken delivery of a Karrimor Sabre 45 (£50 plus Vat plus carriage from PRI- thanks for pointing me there Duncs) It's very good.
It appears that load carrying technology has advanced a bit since my service days.

Can anyone tell me what the two parallel rows of loops on the back are for?

Doc,

I think the loops are a design feature for soldiers - when tabing on a ICFT they would be IDEAL for pushing your rifle mag through.

Or

If a climber they could be ideal for crabs and such.

Never really found a use for them myself though.

they are designed as attachment points for crabs etc

the top of the two rows somtimes ends in a larger loop which when used with the handle at the top of the back padding makes a three point attachment for haulng up rock faces
