I'm well chuffed!

I was looking at the stats of the how many view my pics on Flickr were getting when I say I was getting a lot from lonelyplanet.com.

When I checked the site I found that they had used it on their page to describe the 10 Best Treks in the world!

More important, did they pay you for the honour to sell your photo and make them money?

I hope they asked your permission before using it!

Nice pic in any case! goodjob

Its under a Creative Commons Licence - they have accredited me by name and provided a link back to the picture - I'm pretty chuffed they picked it from all the images on Flickr!

If I spot it in a mag etc, that's a different story.

Well if you're happy, that's great news for you. I always thought Creative Commons Licence didn't count for commercially uses.

I only point this out because a journalistic piece of mine got ripped off by Lonely Planet. I wrote a story, was the only westerner ever to travel to that place. A year later the lonely planet had a review, which by the writing was clearly taken from my article and they had not been.

Congratulations, but as a professional photographer, obviously I think it's inappropriate to give away your work to commercial clients.
Leagally it depends which Creative Commons Licence you applied..

http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses

I understand that Getty are trying to "monetize" flikr, so if you have lots of images on there you could be missing out...

David,

Thanks for the link - I'll have a read - maybe I'm selling myself short.

As for the Getty program - I have opted out so it shouldn't have been through there.

Edit - just checked the licence and it appears they are within the bounds of the licence - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/2.0/deed.en - as in they have not altered the image and it is attributed to me.

Still chuffed though....
