hi all,
i hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but here goes. i'd like to put together a knife based on the fallkniven F1 knife,or another similar fulltang blade but i don't know how to put it together. what other things would i need and where is the best place to get the material from ( ie handle and pins etc)?? a list of all the items i need and what size would be excellent!!! another thing, how do i put it together, do i use glue?? lol. im pretty sure ive got all the tools i need for this project as like diy so therefor tools have been my birthday/christmas present for a few years!!
i'd also like to make the sheath.
all i want to do is to make something that i can be proud of and that could last me a long time. hopefully with a nudge in the right direction from yourselves i can make a half decent attempt. are there ant tutorials or books available?

regards

james ! i hope i dont sound as stupid as this question!! lol)

There are no stupid questions imo.

You would best be off with some pre ordered handle slabs in a hand tool workable wood, some corby rivets, some tube and a good epoxy. they can all be had from a source like for example Nordell knives

I could write a detailed instruction on how to put this together, but that has been done many times before. Just do a google on knifemaking, knife scale fitting or visit www.britishblades.com. Ditto for making sheaths.

Good luck,
-Emile

Go to British Blades. You will not find a bunch of friendlier people, apart from here. And that's due to the fact that loads of us are over there aswell!

James,
Have just finished making my first knife, i bought the steel from phoenix and the handle from some plum from my back garden. the only special tool i bought was an angle grinder from focus for £15. i bought some brass rod from a specialist iron mongers in worcester (there's probably a local one near you 2) then i followed green petes instructions. For the scales , i rough cut the wood first at about 3/8 inch per scale and rough cut the shape then used araldite to glue them on before i fitted the pins. a belt sander makes a nice finish. Just starting my next couple now. Any questions just pm me.
Good Luck ;)
