Thans for the reply, Tony. It looks like the fault was mine because I tried to use the picture button instead of the link button... Gues it's because I'm from the generation that used envelopes and stamps to send someone a picture. Quite the improvement on the carrier pigeon, haha.

Restoring faded markings on anvil with ACID... could that work? Could that be thé 'solution' ?

Apears to be a technical hickup... as soon as it's solved I will 'elaborate a bit' on how I electrocuted my anvil. ⚡⚡

Restoring faded markings on anvil with ACID... could that work? Could that be thé 'solution' ?

Update: It worked! It's an Attwood anvil from Stourbridge, England. Estimated date of birth somewhere between 1830 and 1850. Fortunately I found a large enough container to fit the anvil in and using electrolysis I managed to expose what remained of the makers markings (....OOD and...

    Hello from the Netherlands!

Oh dear... I'm not going to be excomunicated now, am I?? Come on, I'm sure it wasn't that bad, was it? Just joking and thank you. Always nice to make someone smile because that one smile could change the outcome of an entire day.

Restoring faded markings on anvil with ACID... could that work? Could that be thé 'solution' ?

Archeologist/conservators de-rust iron artifacts by soaking them in acid like hydrochloric acid or phosphoric acid. Now I wonder if that would work on (very) large objects like let's say: an anvil? The idea is to bring back those faded makers marks, weights and dates and such... hmmm...

    Blacksmith tool question

Hi. Just came across this conversation and I'd like to contribute a bit, that is, if you don't mind. Soon enough you'll run out of gas and I think solid fuels (wood, coal, charcoal) are cheaper then gas. At least over here (Netherlands) they are. Now, building a solid fuel forge is easy as abc...

    Hello from the Netherlands!

Haha, what an awesome cool story!! My first "forge" was a zinc bucket filled with sand and a few patio bricks... I drilled a hole in the side, inserted a metal pipe (with little holes drilled in it) from a former coat rack, conected an electric weed burner to it and voilla: a forge was born...

    Hello from the Netherlands!

Just thinking outloud but could one of those portable forges from India be something for you? There's a video on youtube somewhere. They almost fit inside a shoebox. And a (small) tarp to keep the rain off your head? Or sun? Or a carport? Under a balcony? Friendly neighbors? Heck, you could even...

    Hello from the Netherlands!

I'm planing on making smal artwork(?) for key rings. After I've mastered that: small tools like a bottle opener or some basic cuttlery, wall hooks and small stuf like that. Eventualy bigger tools, I think it would be awesome to make my own blacksmithing tools. That's the plan anyways. So far, my...

    Hello from the Netherlands!

Hi all, I'm from Frisia in the north of the Netherlands. I enjoy being outdoors, be it gardening, looking after my bantam chickens, fishing, a walk in the woods or beating up hot piece of iron on my anvil, as long as it it outside, I'm fine. I'm not a people's person and prefer the piece and...
