No probs mate.
If you want to extend the life of the pot. Get some polyprop rope and wrap it around the bottom of the pot as this will stop the netting from getting trashed if you drag it along a rough bottom. takes a while to weave it in and out but is worth it.
Not really much in the way of decent rivers in Somerset
It would be worth the effort taking it to the Wye over the bridge.
Not sure what part of Somerset you are from. The Congresbury Yeo, Congresbury has access so you wont get any hassle paddling but it's not very long and you would not...
Once you have a cuttlefish in your pot they will attract others in. But the problem is getting one in your pot in the first place. Most baits will do but adding a old CD as a lure is he norm.
You will need a boat or at least a canoe really to get out into deep water. but not always the case. I know places which are very productive for lobster and only a stone throw from the shore. boils down to practice and local knowledge.
If you are thinking about getting some collapsible pots...
Ok Just noticed you live.
have you been to the woods by wickwar? Bigger than leigh woods with a lot less people. I have sat in them woods many a time without seeing a sole. Loads of wild life, wild service trees and some chunky coppice stools to look out for.
Den
Rowberrow is a nice wood. mostly pine type trees in striaght rows but does have some beach woodland. Would be quite poplar on weekends. No more than any other wood around the area though. Quite a lot of logging going on there at the moment and probaly 1/4 of what is shown on the map is chopped...
I think it depends on the amount of decay and the type of wood used. For instance green cut Ivy in my opinion is not a touch on dead hanging ivy but with to much rot it will crumble and not produce an ember.
Hi
I know where you are coming from with the lack of places to go around the Bristol area. I have been into all this for over ten years and I have not found one yet.
There are plenty of places to go out for the day but not much, if any in the way of camping.
I would say that...
I think it depends on the type of wood you are using. For example dried fresh ivy is no way as good as dead ivy. Dead lime is not as good as fresh dried Lime. Same with popular. Its a case of trying them all and making your own mind up. Generally with the hand drill I would gather my stalks in...
I have had results with elder on elder it was the first ember i ever made even before i had success with the bow drill. My best hand drill set which i can get an ember in a under a minute is mullein stalk on a lime (t.cordata) board.
Nice one ketchup
I can really see why it is used for sword handles. Rub it one direction and it is as smooth as glass, rub the skin the other way and it grips like two pieces of Velcro. Had a go at sanding some wood this morning and was surprised how well it worked. I thought with a bit of...
I have got to say I am having fun with something that would normally go in the bin.
Last year I vegetable tanned some conger which came out so much better than I expected, shame it was only a small test piece. I was able to catch a nice sized one a couple of weeks ago which should be...
Anthony I have noticed you have mentioned adding salt. Does this help to separate the oil?
Ketchup I have been messing around for the last year with tanning fish skins into leather. Till now I have been breaking the skins in with adding a little birch oil but it darkens the skin and smells so...
