Hey! What about Deadwood, brilliant.
Not a fan I'm afraid. Maybe if it had caught my interest a little more and I'd followed the series.

For more recent westerns I liked Lonesome Dove and Texas Rising. In the latter they were very careful with the historical background and the characters. I especially liked the way they kept Bigfoot Wallace's character accurate to the real one.

One of my favourite films is Papillon, with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, how Steve McQueen didn,t get an Oscar for that beats me.
Papillon.
Gods, yes, that was a good movie!

Do you know they made a remake this year?
I do nit expect much from it though. The original is unbeatable.
,
I'm with both of you: Yes the original Papillon was great but I don't expect much from the remake. Probably will be like comparing the original Magnificent 7 to its remake.

A few of the earlier postings were people who don't have a TV.
I can quite see the correlation betweenno TV and having real stuff to do instead.

I've not had a TV since well before the analogue switch over. YT is my visual entertainment.

I wonder how many others don't do the traditional TV thing any more?
(And do you enjoy the monthly threatening letters from TV licencing?)

I remember a few years ago I had a chap come round doing a t.v. program 'survey' asking what programs I like to watch. I gave a list very similar to the one I gave earlier in this thread - once the guy found out the programs were from late 70's through 80's I've not had another TV licence letter or reminder :)

Another one I've forgotten to add = Stargate, my missus bought me the dvd collection from a second had shop, cause DVD's are old school now :) [I still have a computer with a 5.25 inch floppy disk drive]

Depends on how far back you go to you define "traditional tv." I know loads of people who've disconnected from the old cable companies and now only get such services as Hulu, Netflix, etc. But that's been over a decade now.

I'm glad I no longer have to worry about a tv license..

I have a big TV and satellite service here as you might expect. I don't use it except maybe once a month
if someone reminds me of something I should watch. No idea how many channels I get.
I used to like to watch TV. The British mystery series have closed captioning better than anybody else, bar none.

As my hearing deteriorated, I quit. No concerts, no theater plays, rare public interactions. Just print, like this.
Wait until you lose the ability to understand the spoken word. Thick accents and background noise and I leave.

Another good film I enjoyed was"The Yellow Rolls Royce" which had a plethora of stars in it, Ingrid Bergman, Rex Harrison, Omar Sharif et al.

Vikings was good...they should have ended it already to be fair,.Ragnars death and seeing the great heathen army set off would have been better for an ending instead of dragging it out and making a poor production

Participation is better food for my curiosity than TV even would be.

Wood carving. When I use spoke shaves, I can still hear them singing in the wood.
The rhythm of an elbow adze or a D adze when it matches my heart rate (you can go all day without tiring.)

Sneak back 5,000 years and prepare supper with flint knives.
Want to barter bison meat for fresh salmon with First Nations people.

So how does one plan to participate 5000 years in the past? Damn witchcraft
