What an awesome experience that must have been. I've never eaten moose [that I'm aware of :)]

Lovely dogs too, look similar to my malamute but smaller :) I had my old German Shepherd put to sleep half a year a go @ 12 years old he has some internal bleeding issues and at 35kg he was a bugger to move around and took a fair size hole to bury him in the garden. I can imagine moving that moose around wasn't too much fun.

Shotgun slugs don't travel as far as a rifle bullet.
That may be related to human populations in the district.

I'm surprised that the moose wasn't quartered in the field.
But they got him into the van on his back = much less mess than quarters.
Just imagine that heavenly meat smell in the van, all the way home!

I took 4 quarters of bison to a butcher some 90km away,
The Burb had the greatest of smells, all the way.

No difference here in the firearms licencing.
Next, you get a hunting licence.
It's a booklet of pages, each of which is for some big game.

There's a chart in the BC regulations which shows legal hunting methods for different game.
It shows, for example, that you cannot hunt bears with a .22cal rimfire.

If shooting distances are regularly under 100 yards, those Beloruss guys are pretty smart.
The shotgun is more versatile and a pump is 3+ quick shots.

In many countries it is fairly easy to get a shotgun permit than a rifle permit.

Not sure about Belorussia, but I am sure GCCkoka will tell us!

Over here in Georgia it doesn't matter after one easy exam you can get both.
In Belarus you have to buy a shotgun first and have it for 3 years and the you get permit to get a rifle
But most guys hunt with shotguns , in this kind of driven hunts in the woods rifle is useless , shotgun is more versatile , because you are not shooting that far , plus on a running wild boar or roe buck buckshot is the way to go , you have maximum chance of hit even if you're a bad shooter , plus shotgun is cheaper , average nice soviet shotgun over here costs 300pounds buckshot costs like less then one pound for turkish made and about 2 pounds for italian made from beretta and etc. while to get a normal rifle you need to pay at least 2.5 times more and one round costs 2-3pounds plus minimum 100 pounds for normals optics and rings so for shotgun gets all the choices for us.

Dead game can still give you grief:

Banged a good 3 pt buck on the last day of the season, no more than 12" snow on the ground.
Field-dressed the beast and dragged it out to the road. All I had was an English Ford Cortina.
Not the biggest boot/trunk, either.

Another hunter happened along and between the 2 of us, we got the carcass slung into the trunk.
1. As the meat chilled, every tick and louse hopped off, into the trunk of my car.
2. The buck got a bad case of rigor mortis = stuck in the trunk, no way to pull it out.

Any troubles pulling the moose out of the van?

You got me giggling like a fool there RV ...
I can imagine the dilemma 😂...
Fancy taking a Cortina to a hunt..😆😁
Like a comedy sketch... Sorry to laugh but that's a campfire story right there...😀

What did you do with the car in the end?

Douse it , light it and push it off the cliff ?

Did you get the buck out?
I'm gonna stop right there... So many buck jokes springing up. ....

Sorry
😂😆😂

Yeah its a figure found in the woods , the place had a lot of figures like that found it in the woods some had a bit work done on them , some did non , I think it is Leshy as thats what kind of woods there are , why didn't you tell me you were in belarus ? lol
Leshy is everywhere buddy. 😉

Apologies , I wasn't implying you're not a good marksman, but I thought that's the reason you gave in the video... Maybe I misheard.. anyhow, matters not !
Looks like you all had a great time!

The van is a soviet UAZ its just piece of metal , the scene you see with dogs in car is that van and moose in the back and on that moose plus two dogs were inside :)

Correction: !

An UAZ is not just a piece of metal. It is a superior Soviet design. Runs and runs and runs.
It took some very clever engineering to design those babies! Simplicity itself!

:)

In Sweden we hunt deer (short range) too with shotgun.
But never moose, that one is rifle only.
Same result = tasty meat!

I don't see the difference why they prohibit it , slug has bigger impact power that can drop it right away, maybe because you don't have driven hunts?

I have a friend that comes from Ulyanovsk. I have been working on her husband that he should buy a Bobik.

With my modded G-wagen - Beauty and the Beast!

Get a Bobik.

My first 'real man's' car was a VAZ 1300. I was given it by father in law, he wanted to scrap it. I fixed it up. Had it for close to 6 years, then gave it away when I moved to UK.

I could fix everything on it, but the brakes were not so fantastic.
I had it to transport rubbish to the dump and to take into the nature when I went fishing, hunting or just walking.

Fresh junk sheds are good enough for handles. Here they are carved then modeled with pyrography.
Average sale price is about $800.00 for scenes of wildlife in our local mountains.
And the guy is really good. He built and carved a house door which sold for $5,000.00
