Someone from Japan joins a British bushcraft/outdoor skills forum to ask about a specific sewing machine from the USA. o_O In order to commercially sew knife sheaths in Japan? Not sure whether you will get much useful advice. You would be better with a UK leather working forum, or a US bushcraft forum, or even better, a discussion board for US leather working. Most of the people here that sew sheaths do it by hand, not machine. Gives a much nicer finish.

Hope you get some good advice...

Good luck.

Thanks for your kindly reply.
In Japan most leather workers are working with thin thread, now I need heavier leather sewing machine for thick thread. I try to find more information abut OUTLAW hand stitching machine in US market, but seems difficult.

All of which leads me to an observation and some questions. It appears that the Outlaw Hand Crank is very very new, as in barely a month. Niche products that have been out less than two years are often hard to find information about, it takes time for people to become aware, then to buy, then to use, then to review or write about them. If you want the sort of information I would want before spending well over $1000, I think you will need to wait quite a while to let the market use the machine and grow the information base.

What is your situation that you are not looking at electric powered machines? Do you hand sew? What work is it in both type and quantity that is steering you to needing a heavy duty hand cranked machine?

I have an old Singer sewing machine that runs with a hand turned wheel, for sewing normal fabric. I tried using it for sewing ultra-light windproof nylon and it was not a good experience. That sort of material really needs two hands to control it and with one hand busy turning a wheel I wasn't able to manage the fabric properly. I am not sure how this applies to leather, but it seems likely that having two hands on the work would be better than only one.

You can tack the leather articles with a little adhesive before stitching if you need two hands on the work, whereas that's usually not an option with fabrics; You're right, though, two hands on the workpiece must be a far better option, greater control makes for better quality workmanship.

I have an old singer that was used to make saddles with, I use it to stitch belts but that’s it I would advise a stitching pony and a good tutorial to learn saddle stitch and do them by hand, by the time you’ve set a machine up to sew a sheath you could have done it by hand.
