I'm having problems.

The lady in the office has emailed me fine, but she passed it along to a colleague to sort out the final details, and I'm still waiting for a message from him.
I'll try chasing him up tomorrow and let you know asap.

I had asked for the last weekend in the month, and it sounded as though that would be fine, the date was clear, so I'm not quite sure what the issue is over the non communication.

I finally have an email from Wiston.

They want £92 for six of us for the weekend, and it'd be extra for anyone else.
That's including firewood I hasten to add.

If folks are still up for this, and given the late date, and that the site looks busy, then I need five others to sign up as definite in the next day or so.

This is the email from Wiston, and I'll pass on the invoice details so folks can see the breakdown if folks send me a pm with email details (it's a pdf file thingie)
Basically for six folks, including firewood, it'd be £15 each for the weekend.

Hi Mary,

Please find attached the invoice for your Bushcraft gathering at the end of the month. The invoice is for the minimum of 6 that we require for the tipi site, any more people beyond 6 can pay when they are here. The cost of camping in the tipi site is typically £10 per person per night, however because we have taken down the tipis and the parachute over the campfire to limit possible storm damage, we have reduced the cost to £6 per person per night.

Unfortunately a group has filled the cabins that weekend (in fact we could have filled them 2 or 3 times!) so i'm afraid there won't be a bed available in the cabins for you. Likewise the house is full too. If this is a problem for you let us know and Wendy will see what she can do when she returns from holiday on Thursday.

Please also find attached information on camping and using the tipi site.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wiston again.

Kind Regards,

Peter
Office Administrator

I have both a smallish parachute and a tarp. Firebowl and accoutrements and the muckle great kettle :) Happy to bring them along. I also have a huge stash of fomes needing broken out and boiled up and worked into amadou if folks want to do some for themselves :)

Heaven alone knows what the weather gods have in mind though

I'm too sore to sleep chilled at night just now and expect to get up and be able the next day, but it's only half an hour up the valley for me, so I don't mind just coming back down the road and back up early next morning. It's pretty much a five minute drive to the M74 both coming and going. Happy to chip in my fifteen pounds worth towards the fees though.

It's a good site :D Parking's easy and safe, the hill is literally straight out of the back and upwards, it's accessible by both car and bus (or train to Lanark and wee bus to Wiston).

That sounds great Toddy. Which makes it even harder to say that due to unforseen circumstances I can't make that weekend now! :banghead: I've been looking forward to this for weeks, especially as it's the last weekend I had free before we move house and then It will be even harder for me to get to meets etc. Just my bloomin luck...

Hamish, honestly, it's just sod's law. This Winter has totally just muddled every blooming thing around, dragged it out and generally make mockery of every plan.

No worries on it. It would have been excellent to meet up, but if it's not happening, it's not happening. There'll be other times :)

Good luck with the flitting :)

Thanks Mary, I know it's going to drive me up the wall missing out but responsibilities come first. Hopefully it's a success and we get another meet planned later in the year and I manage to keep that day free!

Oh good :)

It's for the two nights; from Friday through to Sunday.

I haven't been given times for setting up, but I'm presuming daylight at least on the Friday too, and just when we're finished and cleared up on the Sunday.

I'm giving this thread a bump.

I think that if we can't guarantee numbers by tomorrow, I really need to let them know and cancel.

No issues over it; the weather's dreadful, the timing is tight now, but if folks are up for it, it could still be a very good meet up :)

could only manage a day visit on the Saturday if it's still going ahead ?

Folks this one isn't happening just now.

Chill, no fuss, I'll contact Wiston tomorrow and we'll sort something out when the weather's better and we're not chasing our tails trying to do too many things at the one time.

atb,
Mary

We're not doing a very good job of this are we! We decide it would be a great idea to meet up in feb and you kindly take charge and organise it all for us, then we all end up with other commitments. Sorry to put you out Mary, Hopefully next time round things go a bit smoother and we can get a good gathering together :)

I've emailed Wiston. They arranged a special price deal for us, and I hadn't paid a deposit.. That's normally a requirement of the booking, but the tipi site had been cleared because of the storms, so we'll see how they take it.

Life gets busy; and at this time of year, the weather can be so changeable anyway and that makes it harder when the days are still so short.

M
