I had a Soviet SKS. Brand new in cosmoline and cost $69 back in the early 1990s. They released thousands of them (if not tens of thousands) from storage onto the surplus market. They're still around but the price is much dearer now. I sold that one to upgrade. My SIL has a Soviet surplus Mosin-Nagant that was also released new from storage onto the surplus market more recently. They were running about $119 average at the local gun stores but He got it from the Base Exchange for $98.

I bought one in Canadian Tyre last year for about £100 which was about Can $200 at the time. Great value!

You don't see many 68 pattern jackets in anything other than tiny sizes nowadays

Always preferred that shade of DPM over the more modern darker 95 shade

I have a pristine one in about size XL in my loft which I still wear occasionally when out fishing

Not very good when soaking wet though, but still a great quality jacket

Cheers,
Allan

I recently got my Swedish army snow smock. Unissued, like new (with a surplus smell, of course). It is little too big for me, maybe should have taken one size smaller. But having plenty of room for a few layers of wool and a thick fleece jacket underneath is pretty damn nice. First mod to do: add a rabbit or a coyote fur trim to the hood- it really make a difference.
Swedish snow smock and felted wool trousers from 1960 are now my new favorite piece of outdoor clothing. Comfortable, breathable, warm and silent. Highly recommended!

Just ordered myself a Swedish M62 Snow parka (button front) and a Czech M60 backpack from Military Mart. I'm looking to dye the former a deep brown for both casual outdoor use and use the pack for shooting trips.

Heavens no! It’s as God intended.

Because of our draconian legislation it (Svetlana) is being held for me by a buddy in Canada for my annual trip over. Way cheaper than flying with a rifle!

Not here I’m afraid.

There are straight pull versions about in the UK which are an option and the MARS rifles are very similar but they are under Home Office scrutiny with a view to a ban right now. I expect a de-ac would be £3-400 but that’s not really my field.

Just to be difficult, the UK gov won't let you convert a semi to a single shot.
If it was ever a section 5 firearm, then it will always be a section 5. The only thing you can do is deact it.
The single shot version must be built that way from the factory.

yes get it while you can
stock from cold war stuff is getting rare
all EU countries destroy most of their uniform and Kit now a days.
Through the shredder, making couch filling etc.
Even German flecktarn stuff is rare now, if you see it, last stock.....

The Collared 95 in ripstock, would fade nicely if you washed it enough, think mine lasted four years of use before the zip quit.
