Yes. Try the birchwood Casey paste. It works pretty well.

You can remove blue very easily with a soak in vinegar.

Stripping it will get a more even finish. You need to build it up and it will look pretty good.

I have a project on my bench now. I will try to do it and take photos this week for you.

It’s never going to last like hot bluing but that isn’t really what it’s about.
