It might be possible I can stay longer/overnight. I will know closer to the time. I'm hoping to bring 1 or 2 friends.
(neither on BCUK but they'll fit in, and will happily folow any rules).

BTW will people want to try some Bushcraft skills?
:headbang:
If so, what do people want to try?
I can happily bring along my group kits for:
Bowdrill, Flint and steel(trad), Fint knapping, or making natural cordage?
I have plenty enough equipment (& safety gear), for the whole group(up to 12 people).

Having seen a bow drill in use, I wouldn't say no to having a go, or even been given the advice required to make my own :) Flint knapping sounds like fun too :) in all honesty I'd happily have a go at any of your suggestions, but those two in particular.

That said, at this moment in time, just being out, chatting and staring into a fire would keep me happy :D

No probs, I'll bring along both. I'll definately be doing some fire staring  it's like Catnip for humans!

BTW for anyone that wants a go: I'll supply a few saftey gloves and glasses but theres no pressure to use them, I always leave it as personal choice for adults.

Quick update on my situation - we moved house last Friday, so if I can find enough kit (and dependant on what plans the Mrs has) I might stop over on the Saturday night.

WIll confirm with you Kev, on arrival assuming that'll be ok of course?

The weather is looking typically British for the weekend, but nothing too bad!

BBC forcast for the area:

  • [h=4]Outlook for Friday to Sunday[/h]FRIDAY: Cold, occasionally sunny with scattered showers.
SATURDAY: Becoming less cold with occasional rain and strong winds.
SUNDAY: Remaining cloudy with outbreaks of rain.

Decision made! I'm going to bring Waterproofs ;)

Hmmm don't mind the rain, that's what tarps ponchos etc are for, but strong winds! Bad enough round here at moment for me to be reconsidering Saturday - that said, I very rarely let the weather put me off doing anything.

:camping: YES, TO CAMPING! !!! :hammock:

The weather is fine now, barely any wind at all, and quite reasonable British spring time weather is expected.

I'll be camping, the only thing I'd suggest is we check for any part-fallen (hanging) branches around the camp area before we set up camp, I'm assuming some trees at the woods were damaged.

I have 1 experiences of tarp camping in very high wind...and it was ok.
About 19 years ago I went on a trip with aboutt 8 lads from the local YMCA on a mountain trip.
We camped near "Red Tarn" a lake near "scafell"(lake district), everyone else was in a dome tents, I wanted to use a tarp with a bivibag for the experience. In the night it was incredibly windy similar to yesterday, but up a mountain it's fairly normal! Everyone else had a terrible night because the tents were constantly battered all night, some claimed their tent was lifted of the ground by the wind at one point. I was fine under my tarp, in a hollow which was noisy, it moved around a lot but I luckily used bungees which stretched otherwise the tarp could well have rippped, thankfuly the wind just went over the tarp. My tarp on the mountain was only about 18" high...hm, cosy! ;)

Theres no way I would have camped out with a tarp yesterday or as I call it "Paragliding", trees down the road were getting uprooted!

Looking forward to meeting you all, see you there!

As for tarps in wind...I camped near scafell(lake district), some years back with a few friends they were in a dome tent, they had a terrible night and claimed the tent lifted of the ground at one point, I was fine under my tarp. the tarp was noisy, and moved around a lot but I used bungees which stretched rather than the tarp ripping. I chose a lower area in a sort of hollow so the wind just went over me.
Baisically for strong wind, be aerodynamic, keep the low point towards the wind, keep your tarp low and as flat as you can, obviously with an angle to allow water to fall off. My tarp on the mountain was only about 18" high...hm, cosy! ;)

Looking forward to it, hopefully see you there!

Sorry chaps, it's looking like I'll have to give it a miss this time. Been off work today with upset stomach, hoped I'd feel better by now for joining you tomorrow, but sadly not :(

Looking forward to next one, when I do hope to be 100% fit
