That really is a ridiculous statement to make.
I'm not a hammocker nor will I be but even I know that hammocks wouldn't be as popular as they are if people who use them were uncomfortable.
Horses for courses as they say.
Im snug as a bug in mine even in the heart of winter one wool blanket and a sleeping bag, and I have a cracking nights sleep no aches, pains or stiff joints like I have laying on the ground. as Steve says everyone to their own.

I wander, if for those who don't take every opportunity to hone there fire side cooking skills at the moot, and for those who do and wish to have a few pointers and professional tips, would a few fire side cookery afternoon sessions/lessons work, where by the food that has been cooked and prepared during the session, then became available to be received by any one that just wants a night off from cooking etc. the proceeds would then be donated back to BCUK?
Say 3 sessions starting around 4pm, preparing, cooking and serving food for 7 ish? Every thing being made from scratch! I have tried to cover a broad range of skills with in the menu, with obviously some slight repetition. Keeping it simple, but delicious!
The suggested session menus:
Baking + Frying - Pizza's - Chips - Donuts - Cup cakes (with camouflage icing)
Flat pans - Risotto - Paella - Flat breads - Pancakes and syrups.
Deep pans + Grilling - Marinaded meat, fish, veg - Stews - Sauces - Steamed puddings (yes there will be chocolate and ginger)
We will try and use some foraged and wild food where poss.
Don't know if it would work. or if its something you all may want?
I think Im right that a few folk sounded keen when I suggested it around the fire this year?
Looking forward to another great week in the woods (if Im wanted) with a totally mad (but lovely) bunch of people, always feels like home

I'm planning what workshops and courses to run next year. I have already been asked to do a 1 day Axe Master Class. Plus I will offer a pre moot 2 day fist aid course and a 1 day Bhutanese bamboo Bow Making Course.
Right I have finaly got my days booked for the Moot next year, I will only be able to do Aug 4th and leave Aug 10th, can you pay just for those days, as I will not beable to make the Full Core
After losing my Bushmoot virginity this year, in the words of T 800, ' I'll be back', for those first timers wondering if it's all hard core survival, forget it, nicer bunch of chaps and chapess's I've met in ages, all willing to share their skills. I learnt loads and polished up a few known shills.
Just a word of warning, don't go to the Naughty Corner after dark ' here there be monsters '

Hammocks - done right - can be much more comfortable than sleeping on the "cold, hard"... personally I am amazed at folk camping in tents and so locking themselves away from the natural beauty you can see from a hammock and which is only at its best as you first wake up!
Why go light at the Moot - you ain't carrying the gear far or every day - "go for comfort and bring lots of toys" is my fashion!
+ 1 to the above. Probably the one time in the year you can play and experiment with all your toys.
Gonna be a tent for us as I'll have three kids under three with me and mrs tat2 .

See you there then hopefully trev . We use a mix of tarps and tents lil man 2 . has most of the tent with his travel cot and the 2 bigger boys get a choice build your own den / tent or tarp . We end up with some mad huge tarp shelter that we alter according to the weather. And I have a new 7x9m tarp to add to the many I already have .

I have just seen the dates for the moot 2014 (Ive been away from BCUK for a while) that is totally spiffing and I hope this year to come for the whole duration - on the request of my children. SEE YOU THERE

Aaand 4th-16th aug booked. You should have seen my bosses face when I asked him for holiday 8 months ahead
For me it's my new siltarp, hammock as I was converted this moot and a small tent as My gf is coming with me so bit of everything.
+1 for mr Fenna. Bring all your toys, moot is a great place to try all your ideas and learn new ones. Also it's a good oportunity to sell/replace/swap your gear.
I have rethinked, streamlined and practically replaced my whole kit last time.

Okay, the flights are booked and car sorted - we will be arriving in luxury this time not like three bedraggled waifs lugging huge packs on our backs (although I actually enjoyed doing it that way last time, unfortunately the children did not)
