The blade looks great!
I like the thickness ( thinness), easier to chop with than those overly thick blades!

What is your experience with that steel, is it close to carbon steel in feel and edge retention?

Yes i agree . They are handy . They are perfect in or on the rugsack . Not so heavy . Yes they are perfect for fire wood and cut branches and twiggs with.
Yes spot on. This is why i desided to test Aeb-l as chopper. Its close to carbon steel but it is very rust resistent due to the relativly low carbon . Yet its 12,6 % crom in it. If i remembers right .
It holds the edge pretty good yet its easy to sharp . Its very good alround steel i think .

I did some testing today with my SS Aeb-l chopper . I have to say i am impressed. Remember its a light chopper only 3mm thick.
I started with cutting isolation material and i am satisfied if you think what its made of.
I could cut paper after i was done. But not good.
Then i cut some fire wood . The first was rotten so that was nothing, but then i cut dryed wood and smashed it thru some hard branches and it worked fine and i could cut paper after i was done.
Then i cut some in fresh wood. Still i could cut paper and shave after i was done.
